Following his visit to Ethiopia, our CEO, Kohei Muto, participated in the “Joint Missions for Promoting Trade and Investment in Africa,” organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and visited Ghana.

During the visit, we held courtesy meetings with key government officials, including Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and H.E. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, reaffirming our commitment to further strengthening Japan–Ghana economic relations and supporting the activities of Japanese companies operating in Ghana.

We also visited Melcom Group, the country’s largest retail supplier, as well as several facilities and companies, including Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing Ghana Ltd., DTRT Apparel, Mohinani Group, and local startup Momo. We additionally participated in the Japan–Ghana Business Forum, where discussions covered Ghana’s investment strategies and insights into local business operations.

エチオピア訪問に続き、外務省主催「アフリカにおける貿易・投資促進合同ミッション」の一環でガーナを訪問しました。

現地では、エリザベス・オフォス＝アジャレ貿易・アグリビジネス・産業大臣、サムエル・オクジェト・アブラクワ外務大臣、ジェーン・ナナ・オポク＝アジェマン副大統領をはじめとする政府要人を表敬訪問し、日ガーナ間の経済関係の強化およびガーナにおける日本企業の活動支援について意見を交わしました。

また、国内最大級の小売事業者であるMelcom Groupをはじめ、Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing Ghana Ltd.、DTRT Apparel、Mohinani Group、および現地スタートアップのMoMoを訪問した他、日ガーナ・ビジネスフォーラムにも参加し、ガーナ政府の投資戦略や現地における事業環境について議論しました。

Our CEO, Kohei Muto, participated in the “Joint Missions for Promoting Trade and Investment in Africa,” organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and visited Ethiopia together with representatives from 41 Japanese companies and organizations.

During the mission, we met with senior Ethiopian government officials, including H.E. Mr. Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance; H.E. Dr. Gedion Timothewos Hessebon, Minister of Foreign Affairs; H.E. Mr. Melaku Alebel Addis, Minister of Industry; and H.E. Dr. Kassahun Gofe Balami, Minister of Trade and Regional Integration.

The program also included visits to Safaricom Ethiopia, Bole Lemi Industrial Park, and Ethiopian Airlines, providing opportunities to engage with key players across telecommunications, manufacturing, and aviation.

We sincerely thank the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, all participating companies, and our Ethiopian counterparts for making this mission possible.

Strategic Dialogue to Architect a Space Business Ecosystem between Japan and Ethiopia 🇯🇵x🇪🇹

Our CEO, Kohei Muto, had the opportunity to attend and present at a high-level strategic dialogue focused on building a sustainable spacetech commercial ecosystem that bridges space startups, established businesses, and government entities in both Ethiopia and Japan, organized by The Ethiopian Space Science Society (ESSS) and CrossU.

The discussion centered on how diverse stakeholders, including local startups, can collaboratively drive ecosystem development, and how co-creation and business innovation can be unlocked by linking space technology with other private sectors such as agriculture and disaster monitoring.

Special thanks to all representatives of the key stakeholders who contributed to this strategic dialogue. We look forward to further discussions and continued collaboration toward building a sustainable bilateral space business ecosystem.

Our portfolio company, Warpspace, has announced the completion of its Series C financing through a third-party allotment.

Warpspace is a Japan-based Spacetech startup developing WarpHub InterSat, a next-generation communications network in space based on inter-satellite optical communications, utilizing optical space communications technology.

DFP has backed the company through our investment and advanced collaborations with local partners to facilitate the deployment of optical ground stations in Africa, with the objective of enhancing satellite communication networks.

Warpspace will accelerate the market launch of its multi-protocol optical communications modem “HOCSAI” and digital twin system “DTS” by building out its manufacturing and sales capabilities.

DFP has been promoting the use of satellite data in Africa and exploring how it can contribute to solving social challenges across the continent, together with Axelspace, a space venture company developing and operating microsatellites, and Cross U, a open innovation platform that brings together industry, government, and academia in the space industry.
As part of this project, our CEO, Kohei Muto, will be visiting Johannesburg and Cape Town in South Africa together with Mr. Yuya Nakamura, CEO of Axelspace. During the visit, they will engage in discussions with local government and organizations to better understand on-the-ground needs and explore opportunities for meaningful collaboration.

We are pleased to share our latest “Africa Startup Brief”, highlighting key fundraising and M&A trends across Africa in December 2025.

December 2025 Overview
• USD 194M raised by 17 startups
• 4 M&A deals, bringing the YTD total to 78 deals (+98% YoY)

🔑Key Highlights
・Asahi agreed to acquire Diageo’s East African spirits assets for $2.3B, the region’s largest M&As.
・Lagride, a Nigerian renewable energy startup, raised USD 100M, marking the fourth-largest fundraising round of 2025.
・The renewable energy sector dominated fundraising by capital raised, accounting for USD 140M.
・Bolttech, a Singapore-based insurtech unicorn, strengthened its African presence by acquiring Mtek, a Kenyan insurtech startup.
・Capitec Bank, South Africa’s largest retail bank, acquired fintech startup Walletdoc, marking the fourth fintech acquisition by a major financial institution.

DFP will participate in the Joint Missions for Promoting Trade and Investment in Africa next week as in previous years.

This year, our CEO, Kohei, represents us and will be visiting Ethiopia and Ghana.
The mission is led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and brings together Japanese companies as well as government affiliated organizations such as JICA, JBIC, and NEXI. Together with them, we will engage in dialogue with local governments and business communities and explore trade and investment opportunities between Japan and Africa.

Sora Technology has raised $2.5 million in a second close of its seed round.

Sora addresses malaria and other infectious diseases by leveraging drones, satellites, and AI for forecasting and control. The company is already active in more than 10 African countries and applies its technology in agriculture, mining, and environmental monitoring.

DFP has supported Sora through GlobalXpander Tokyo, a program that helps Japanese startups expand into emerging markets by supporting local PoC ex*****on, providing hands-on guidance, and facilitating strategic partnerships.

Team Update

Our colleague, Shunya Kanamaru, based in Nairobi, visited an orphanage in Uganda where he was involved in supporting efforts toward operational independence in 2022.

Located in an underserved village, the orphanage has faced financial challenges following the closure of its former managing organization. During his visit, Shunya spent time and celebrated Christmas with the children.

“I’m always grateful for the energy the children give me. I hope they can grow up safely and with dignity, and I’d like to keep considering what I can do in my own small way.”

As we approach the end of the year, the DFP team wishes all our partners and supporters a wonderful holiday season and a great new year.

ケニア駐在の金丸が、ウガンダの孤児院を訪問しました。
金丸は2022年に当孤児院の自立支援に携わっておりましたが、近年は母体となる運営組織の閉鎖もあり、運営面で厳しい状況が続いていました。現地では子どもたちと時間を過ごし、クリスマスをともに祝いました。
「いつも孤児院の子どもたちから元気をもらっています。私一人にできることは限られていますが、この孤児院が子どもたちにとって安心してのびのびと成長できる環境であるために、今後も微力ながら関わり続けたいと考えています。」

Nawah is a leading research and development service provider, specializing in laboratory analysis, scientific research, and innovation, employing around 160 researchers.
