【同時通訳初挑戦】
8月25日〜9月3日まで沖縄で開催された
FIBAバスケットボールワールドカップ🏀
アカツキジャパンの活躍を皆さんも
釘付けになって応援していたことでしょう！

実は沖縄アリーナでは、会場内だけで配信される
解説音声サービスが提供されており
今回その同時通訳に行ってきました！

同時通訳、いわゆる同通は
数年前に講座を受けたことはあるものの
現場でのお仕事はもちろん初めて！

お話をいただいた時はいつものビビりが顔を出し
受けるかどうかとても迷ったけど、
大好きなバスケ、そしてこんな大きなイベントに
関われることってこの先ないかもしれない！
と、エイヤの気持ちで臨みました。

ペアを組んでくださったのはなんと、
数年前に受講した講座の講師も務める大先輩！
安心するやら緊張するやら（笑）
でも、「今日の通訳はノリが大事！」と言い切り
楽しむ先輩のお姿に助けられ、
とてもいい経験をさせていただきました。

ドイツ戦とフィンランド戦を担当したので、
結果として世界一になったドイツのメンバー
シュルーダーやワグナー兄弟なども
間近に見ることができ、
フィンランド戦での歴史的一勝にも立ち会えて
忘れられない時間になりました。

Simultaneous Interpretation
FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 was held here in Okinawa (Group rounds and classification rounds) from August 25 to September 3🏀

For this event, I tried the simultaneous interpretation for the first time!
I attended classes for simultaneous interpretation several years ago at a local university. Still, I did not have the courage to challenge it even though I had some opportunities...but finally! Broke out of my shell and I did it!

Usually, simultaneous interpretation is done by two interpreters who take turns every 10-15 minutes, and my partner this time was Hiroko-san, who was a teacher in the classes that I attended! So much pressure but so much relief at the same time...

I was assigned to Japan's games against Germany and Finland, so I enjoyed super plays of Akatsuki Japan's members and also world-class players like Schroder (MVP of the World Cup and led the team Germany to the first time world champion!) and witnessed the historic moment of Japan's victory over Finland!
Incredible and unforgettable experiences!

先週の話になりますが
いつも従業員研修の通訳を
ご依頼いただいてる企業さんから
3日間の研修通訳依頼をいただき行ってきました！

前回を思い返してみるとなんと3年前！
コロナ禍のためオンライン研修でした。

今回も、研修担当の方の細やかな気遣いに癒され、
インストラクターの方のエネルギーと情熱、
プロ精神に感動し、
そして私のことを覚えてくれて
久しぶりと声をかけてくださる
従業員や管理職の方々の優しさに包まれ、
楽しくお仕事させていただきました！

Last week, I worked as as interpreter for a three-day training program of a local company. They are my (almost one and only lol) regular client, and I’ve done similar training interpretation multiple times before.

Last training that I joined as an interpreter was three years ago! And it was done online due to the Covid pandemic.

They never disappoint me and of course this time either!
The quality manager was so detailed and prepared, the trainer was full of energy and passion, and the employees and management team members recognized me and welcomed me back so warmly!
Everyone was so nice and caring, which impressed me and made me feel so good that I truly enjoyed working with them!

オンライン英語レッスン始めています😎
業務委託されている企業さんの従業員へ
お仕事に関連した会話をメインにした
レッスンをさせていただいています！

しっかり基礎から学び直したい方には文法から✍️
実際の会話をシミュレーションした
ロールプレイも👩🏻‍🏫
時には全然関係ない雑談で盛り上がり🤣

私自身も英語の表現や発音には
悩まされてきているので
「わかる～～～！」と共感することもしばしば。
私もとても勉強になっています😌
ゆる～く楽しく、
そして何より長～く続けていただけるよう
頑張っていきます💪🏻

I started providing online English lessons in February😊
I have contracted with a local company and have been offering its employees lessons so they can learn and practice work-related English conversation.

Grammar lessons ✍️ for those who want to learn from basics,
role-play to practice 👄 more common and realistic situations,
and, of course, sometimes we just chat about our private lives🤗

I have been struggling with English expressions and pronunciation myself, so I can totally relate to the problems, concerns, and challenges that they are facing😣
Teaching English to them sometimes teaches essential lessons to me and opens my eyes✨
I hope many employees find it inspiring and fun so they enjoy speaking English!

先週土曜日、
沖縄市のミュージックタウン音市場で
開催されたイベント
「Music Lane Festival Okinawa 2023」に
久しぶりの通訳として参加してきました！

今回は、アーティストハシケンさんに付いて
海外から来たイベント主催者の方などと
一対一でのやり取りをサポート。

ハシケンさんは埼玉県のご出身ながら
沖縄民謡を習われたり
奄美の観光大使を務められるなど、
沖縄〜奄美の文化に大きく影響を受け
そこから深い縁が繋がっています。

半日という短い時間で
パフォーマンスを見ることができず
とても残念でしたが、普段あまり
通訳としてお声がかかる現場ではなかったので
新鮮で楽しく取り組めました！

Worked as an interpreter last weekend for the event “Music Lane Festival Okinawa 2023” that was held at Music Town Otoichiba.

I supported an artist Hasiken for 1 on 1 meetings with event organizers from overseas mainly SE Asia.

Hasiken was born in Saitama prefecture but he has learned Okinawa’s folk songs and is a tourist ambassador for Amami region, which shows how much influence Okinawa/Amami culture has made on his music career.

I stayed there only for a half day so unfortunately I could not see his live performance, but I truly enjoyed working with him as I don’t have many chances to work in the music industry.

5年に一度行われる、世界ウチナーンチュ大会。
その時期に合わせて開催された、
「琉球歴史文化の日」のイベントで
通訳を担当させていただきました！

と言っても、
担当したハワイ沖縄連合会の会長デイビッドさんは
ほとんど日本語を理解されるので私の出番は最後の5分くらい😅

それでも、
他のパネリストさんの話もとても興味深く、
大変いい経験になりました。

The 7th World Uchinanchu Taikai is being held from Monday, November 1, 2022 until Thursday, November 3, 2022 here in Okinawa, and November 1st was Ryukyu History and Culture Day. I participated in the symposium as an interpreter for the president of Hawaii United Okinawa Association, Mr. David Jones.

He spent his childhood in Okinawa and has a very good understanding of Japanese, so there were not much that I could do to help him with communication😅 I interpreted maybe for last five minutes only, but still, it was a great experience and amazing opportunity to learn the history and culture that made Okinawa what it is now.

お久しぶりです。
お久しぶりのあれこれは置いといて、
先週は海外企業さんのイベント通訳でした。

とっっっても久しぶりのガッツリ通訳で
しかも朝のセミナーから夜のレセプションまで。
もちろん体力的にしんどい現場でしたが、
とても楽しく良い経験になりました。

レセプションでは
クライアントとお食事もご一緒させていただき、
食いしん坊の私は食べるのに必死（笑）

Last week,
I was invited as an interpreter to the events of a US company.
It was a all day job with a seminar in the morning and reception at night, which was of course tiring physically, but I tuly enjoyed it.

At the reception I sat with my client and had dinner together. The dinner was so good!
Wish I wasn’t on the job so that I could have enjoyed it with beer

先週はとても久しぶりにイベントのお手伝い。
外国人の来場者の方は少ないと思うので出番がないかも、と事前に聞いていましたが思った通り…通訳友達との世間話でしか英語を話さず帰ってきてしまいました😅
でも外でのお仕事はやはり気が引き締まります。20歳年下の友達もできました💕
Went to a MICE event last week. I was told prior to the event that there would not be many visitors who don’t speak Japanese, and that was what really happened... I sat at the reception for all day long, chatting a girl 20 years younger than me🤣

3か月ぶりの投稿～みなさんいかがお過ごしでしたでしょうか？
コロナウイルスの影響で多くの企業が休業などを余儀なくされている中、でも少しずつ感染状況も落ち着いてきて（沖縄は1か月以上新たな感染者がゼロです）、さっそく先週、通訳のお仕事が再始動しました。

昨年から呼んでいただいている企業さんの従業員研修にまたお邪魔したのですが、今回は最長の4日間の日程でしかも講師の方が海外からコールインするというオンライン！
ビデオ会議ならではの音声トラブルも何回かありましたが、研修参加者の方との質疑応答もスムースに進み、無事に全日程を終了！最終日にはお世話になった方々からメッセージカードとお土産までいただき…こちらがお礼を言わなければいけないのに、とてもあたたかい気持ちで家路につきました。

これからはオンライン通訳もきっと需要が増えてくるでしょうね、そうすると家にいながらアメリカと東京の会議を通訳する、なんていうこともできるかも？！
またひとつよい経験になりました。ありがとうございました！

It's been three months since the last post...how has everyone been doing?
Many businesses have been affected by COVID-19, but the situation in Okinawa is getting better with zero new infection case for over a month, and Office NINA is back for interpretation!

Last week I went to the company that I have visited some times before for the staff training again, but this time, the duration was four days, which was the longest so far, and the training was done online where the trainer called in from overseas!
Yes we of course experienced some technical issues that is typical for this kind of communication, but the issues were solved quickly and the conversation between the trainer and participants were relatively smooth. On the last day of the training, I received a message card and very nice gift from HR team of the company who worked from early morning till late night and helped me a lot so that I did not worry about anything. Such a nice gesture! I was so impressed and happy on my way home.

In the post COVID-19 world where we need to live with it, the business demands for this type of interpretation are more likely to increase, so maybe I interpret in a meeting between US and Tokyo by calling from home?!
Anyway it was a very good opportunity^^ Thank you very much!

コロナウイルスの感染が広がり入国規制が強化されたため、観光業界をはじめいろいろなところで影響が出ていますね。オフィスニーナでも、いただいていた通訳案件が3つなくなってしまいました…
こんな時は大人しく翻訳を頑張ろう！
ということで、今月から半年間ほどにもわたる大型翻訳案件始まります。
新しいパソコンもゲットしたし、しばらくはおうちにこもって進めたいと思います😊

The COVID-19 infection has bee spreading, which made the Japanese government further tighten the immigration restrictions, impacting the business including the tourism in Okinawa. Office NINA is not an exception. Three interpretation offers have been cancelled.
I guess I’d better stay home to work on translation as a big project that is 6 months long is about to start this month!
The photo is the new PC I’ve got last weekend. So fast!
