The Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery (also known as the Green Card Lottery) has specific requirements for applicants. Here are the key eligibility requirements:

# # # 1. **Country of Birth**
- You must be born in a country that is eligible to participate in the DV lottery. Countries with high rates of immigration to the U.S. are typically not eligible.
- If your country is ineligible, you may claim the country of birth of your spouse or parents if they are from eligible countries.

2. **Education or Work Experience**
You must meet **one** of the following:
- **Education**: You must have at least a high school diploma or its equivalent, meaning the completion of a formal course of elementary and secondary education comparable to a 12-year course in the U.S.

**Work Experience**: If you do not meet the educational requirement, you must have two years of work experience within the last five years in a job that requires at least two years of training or experience.

3. **Passport Requirement**
- Applicants must provide a valid, unexpired passport at the time of applying unless they are stateless, a national of a communist-controlled country, or unable to obtain a passport for other reasons specified by the U.S. government.

4. **Eligibility of Family**
- Spouses and unmarried children under the age of 21 can also be included in the application. If you win the lottery, they may also qualify for the visa.

5. **Photograph Requirement**
- You must submit a recent photograph (taken within the last six months) that meets the U.S. visa photo requirements.

6. **Online Application**
- Applications must be submitted online through the official DV lottery website during the open registration period, which is typically between early October and early November. There is no paper application, and it’s free to apply.

7. **Only One Entry Per Person**
- Applicants can submit only one entry per year. Multiple entries will result in disqualification.
