Hives
Catcherbox-(Catch boxes, or catch hives, are used to catch bees from other colonies that are swarming. For the duration of the presentation, I will refer to a catch hive as a “box”. These boxes are convenient to use during bee removals, since its weight is lighter than that of a brood box and is easier to handle and carry.)
Kenya top bar hive-(A top bar hive, or moveable comb hive, is a rectangle box covered with bars of a fixed width. Bees will build their combs from the centre of the top bar, hanging down. To attract a swarm to the hive and to “guide” the bees in the construction of the combs, a strip of bees wax can be melted on the centre of the top bar.)
Shallow super hive-(The main purpose of shallows is to be used as honey supers. They are lighter than mediums and deeps, usually weighing about 30-40 lbs when filled with honey. Shallows can be easily placed down during a nectar flow for bees to offload surplus honey and can be removed afterwards and harvested)
Deep super-(Deep supers are most often used as the “hive body,” where the queen lays her eggs and raises brood. Shallow supers are most commonly used as a honey super. Medium supers can be used as a brood chamber and honey super.)
Equipments
Bee suit-(suit keeps the beekeeper cool and protects them from other insects that may be present in the hive. This article will help you understand the benefits of wearing a beekeeper suit and make an informed decision about what type of suit is going to be best for you)
Bee brush-(A bee brush is a soft bristled brush that can be used to gently, and harmlessly, remove bees from a surface. The bee brush is best used in small scale to move fewer bees per session, if the desired goal is to move bees quickly, in quantity the bee blower may be the proper tool)
Hive tool-(A hive tool is your beekeeping multi-tool. It's used to open the hive, lift and shift frames or other hive parts, scrape away wax and propolis, pry out or re-set loose nails or staples — and you need one from the beginning when installing a package of bees.)
Uncapping folk-(A Capping Scratcher (Uncapping Fork) is an excellent hand tool for opening the cells to let the honey out, particularly useful for uncapping low spots on a frame that a knife won't reach)
Uncapping knife(a knife with a broad, double-edged blade secured by an offset to a wooden handle: used to slice off the covers or caps of the honeycomb preparatory to extracting the honey)
Beetle trap-(Beetle Blaster is a plastic device inserted between frames in a hive to trap Small Hive Beetles (SHB) and thereby protect healthy honeybee colonies. It also acts as a very effective sentinel device. The trap, 23 cm long and 3.5 cm deep, is designed to fit neatly between outer frames in a hive.)
Frame grip-(remove a frame from a brood box or honey super. It's a great tool that allows the beekeeper to securely grip a frame with one hand. This leaves the other hand free to inspect brood.
Queen excluder-(Purpose. The intent of the queen excluder is to limit the queen's access to the honey supers. If the queen lays eggs in the honey supers and a brood develops in them it is difficult to harvest clean honey. It makes fall management more difficult)
Cornical sieve-(Conical honey strainer is made of very fine mesh, and is used in sieving crushed honey combs.)
Stainless double sieve-(Conical honey strainer is made of very fine mesh, and is used in sieving crushed honey combs.)
Bucket feeder-(The pail is filled close to the top with syrup, then with the lid attached, it is slowly inverted to create a vacuum. The pail is placed on top of the frames or over the hole in the inner cover, where bees come up to the screen and lick, allowing more syrup to drip down as they are eating.)
Smoker-(A bee smoker is the device beekeepers use to puff smoke into their hives. This smoke doesn't harm bees, it just interferes with their sense of smell so that they don't react to alarm pheromones.)
