A strong week for the NSE, with broad-based gains across key indices. The NSE 10 Index rose 2.31%, while the NSE Banking Sector Index gained 2.83%, its strongest weekly performance among the major indices.

𝘾𝙖𝙧 & 𝙂𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡 (𝙆) 𝙇𝙩𝙙 led the gainers at +47.81%, while 𝙐𝙘𝙝𝙪𝙢𝙞 𝙎𝙪𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙩 𝙋𝙡𝙘 recorded the largest decline at -7.14%.

The approval of the WSA Banking Index ETF on the Nairobi Securities Exchange PLC upon completion of the remaining pre-listing requirements! As Kenya's first locally-domiciled ETF, this innovative fund will enable institutions and retail investors alike to invest in Kenya's listed banks.

The banks to be included at launch include KCB Group, Equity Group, Co-Op Bank, Absa Kenya, NCBA Group, StanChart, I&M Group, Stanbic Holdings, BK Group PLC, DTB Kenya, HF Group PLC, and eventually the addition of Family Bank.

The approval comes as Kenyan equities continue their strong performance. As of the end of June 2026, the NSE had risen 33% year-to-date, ranking number four among the world's best performing markets only behind South Korea, Nigeria, and Japan. As of July 2026, the NSE Banking Index has led the market with a 30.9% return in 2026, outperforming the bonds, the NSE 10, NSE 20, NSE 25 and the Nairobi All Share Index. The sector's strength is further reinforced by global recognition.

The WSA Banking ETF is expected to list on the Main Investment Market Segment (MIMS) of the Nairobi Securities Exchange in Q4 2026, subject to the completion of the remaining regulatory and operational requirements. - 𝙄&𝙈 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙥 (𝙄𝙈𝙃) and Co-operative Bank (COOP) reflect the broader banking sector rally, with both banks posting robust gains on improved asset quality and profitability.
