🎓 Starting Your Research Project? Answer These 5 Questions First

You have a research topic. You have ideas. You may even have a deadline.

But then you open a blank document and wonder:

“Where do I even start?”

Before writing page after page, stop and answer these five questions:

1️⃣ WHAT is the problem?
What specific issue, gap or challenge do you want to investigate?

2️⃣ WHY does it matter?
Who is affected, and why is this worth researching?

3️⃣ WHAT is already known?
What have other researchers discovered about your topic?

4️⃣ WHAT is missing?
What knowledge gap, unanswered question or unresolved issue will your study address?

5️⃣ WHAT will your study contribute?
What new understanding, evidence or practical solution could emerge from your research?

💡 Your research proposal becomes much easier to write when you are clear about these answers.

Don't let the pressure of your thesis or research project convince you that you aren't capable. Sometimes, you don't need more information, you need clarity, structure and the right guidance to turn what you already know into a coherent research direction.

🎓 Starting your research project? Start with clarity.

📋 5 Organisational Documents Every NGO/CBO Should Have Before Seeking Funding

Your project may be excellent. Your community need may be urgent. Your team may be committed.

But when a funding opportunity comes, a great idea is not the only thing funders look at.

They also need confidence that the organisation behind the project has the systems to manage resources, make responsible decisions and deliver results. Strong organisational capacity supports effectiveness and long-term sustainability.

Before submitting your next application, check whether you have these 5 essential document categories:

1️⃣ Governance Documents

Your constitution, governance structure, leadership records, meeting minutes and key resolutions should clearly demonstrate who oversees the organisation and how decisions are made.

2️⃣ Financial Management Documents 💰

Financial policies, budgets, accounting procedures and internal controls demonstrate how your organisation safeguards and manages resources. Written financial policies help clarify financial roles, authority and responsibilities.

3️⃣ Strategic & Organisational Documents 🎯

Your strategic plan, organisational profile, vision, mission and objectives help funders understand who you are, where you're going and how the proposed project fits your broader direction.

4️⃣ Programme & Impact Documents 📊

Keep project reports, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, beneficiary data, evidence of results and lessons learned. Don't just claim impact—document it.

5️⃣ Policies & Accountability Documents 🛡️

Depending on your work, consider policies covering conflict of interest, procurement, safeguarding, HR, complaints/whistleblowing, data protection and document management. Good governance relies on clear policies and accountable practices.

Here's the question:

If a funder asked your organisation to demonstrate its capacity tomorrow, could you?

Don't wait until the funding deadline to discover missing documents.

🚀 Save this checklist and share it with your organisation's leadership team.

And if you discover gaps, Techinva Kenya can help you strengthen your organisational documentation—from governance policies and strategic plans to organisational profiles, project documentation, concept papers and grant proposals.

🎓 Struggling With Your Research Proposal? Start With These 5 Questions

You have a research idea, but turning it into a proposal that makes sense to your supervisor can feel overwhelming.

Before you start writing, ask yourself:

1️⃣ What exactly is the problem I want to investigate?
If the problem isn't clear, the entire proposal can lose direction.

2️⃣ Why does this problem matter?
Explain who is affected, why it matters and what could happen if it remains unaddressed.

3️⃣ What do I already know about the topic?
Good research builds on existing evidence—not assumptions.

4️⃣ What gap will my study address?
Your research should contribute something meaningful to what is already known.

5️⃣ What exactly do I want to find out?
Your objectives and research questions should clearly connect to the problem and proposed study.

A strong research proposal isn't about using complicated academic language. It's about having a clear research problem, logical argument, credible evidence and a study that can actually answer the questions you've raised.

If you're staring at a blank document wondering, “Where do I even begin?”—you're not alone.

👉 Save this post for when you start working on your proposal.

Struggling with Assignments, Business Plans or Proposals? You're Not Alone.

Every great opportunity begins with a well-written document.

Whether you're trying to graduate with confidence, secure funding for your startup, win a grant for your organization, or convince an investor to believe in your vision, one thing can make all the difference:

How well you communicate your ideas.

Too often, brilliant students lose marks because their arguments lack structure. Promising entrepreneurs miss funding because their business plans don't inspire confidence. NGOs with impactful projects struggle to attract donors because their proposals fail to communicate the full value of their work.

The challenge isn't always the idea, it's how the idea is presented.

Imagine submitting your next assignment with confidence. Pitching your business knowing your plan tells a compelling story. Sending a proposal that clearly demonstrates impact and earns the attention it deserves.

That's the power of professional writing.

Your documents should do more than meet requirements, they should build trust, demonstrate credibility, and create opportunities.

🎯 Don't let poor documentation stand between you and your goals.

📩 Whether you're a university student, entrepreneur, NGO, consultant, or researcher, invest in documents that reflect the quality of your ideas and ambitions.

Before You Apply, Improve Your CV

You could be the most qualified candidate in the room, but if your CV doesn't communicate your value, you may never get the opportunity to prove it.

Recruiters often spend just a few seconds scanning each CV before deciding whether to read further. Research by Ladders found that recruiters initially spend an average of 7.4 seconds reviewing a resume before making a first impression, highlighting how important clarity, structure, and relevance are. Meanwhile, employers consistently rank communication among the most sought-after workplace skills, according to National Association of Colleges and Employers.

A strong CV doesn't simply list your education and experience, it tells a compelling story about the value you bring.

Ask yourself:

✅ Does my CV highlight measurable achievements rather than responsibilities?

✅ Is it tailored to the role I'm applying for?

✅ Does it showcase the skills employers are actively looking for?

✅ Would it convince a recruiter to invite me for an interview?

Your CV is more than a document, it's your personal marketing tool. It should open doors, create opportunities, and give employers confidence that you're the right person for the job.

Whether you're a recent graduate, university student, experienced professional, researcher, consultant, or someone ready for the next career move, investing time in improving your CV is investing in your future.

🚀 Don't let a weak CV stand between you and your next opportunity.
