Turkana Chamber Sensitizes Board Directors Ahead of ILO PROSPECTS–KNCCI Project

As the Turkana Chamber of Commerce, yesterday we convened our board directors from across Turkana County to prepare for the implementation of upcoming activities under the Prospects ILO initiative in partnership with KNCCI Turkana.

Over the next 15 months, the initiative will strengthen the capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), promote business formalization, and support job creation targeting refugees and host community

During the meeting, the directors deepened their understanding of the initiative and explored their roles in driving its implementation at the sub-county level.

As key links between the Chamber and local business communities, the directors will mobilize eligible entrepreneurs, expand outreach, and help ensure that the initiative reaches businesses and individuals who stand to benefit.

Turkana Chamber Pays Courtesy Visit to Gulf Energy Lokichar

As part of the chamber mandate to champion the interests of the business community and promote an enabling business environment, the Turkana Chamber this morning paid a courtesy call to the Gulf Energy office in Lokichar.

The visit provided an opportunity for the Chamber and Gulf Energy to explore areas of collaboration and strengthen engagement on issues affecting businesses and the local economy.

The Chamber delegation, led by Chairman Mr. Justus Amoni, was received by Mr. Eris Lothike, Social Accountability Manager at Gulf Energy Lokichar.

During the meeting, Chairman Amoni emphasised the importance of collaboration between the Chamber and Gulf Energy. He noted that by joining the Chamber, Gulf Energy would benefit from its advocacy platform, including efforts to promote pro-business policies and engage policymakers on issues that may affect private-sector growth.

The Chairman also underscored the importance of local content, particularly in employment and procurement, to ensure that local businesses and communities benefit from investments and economic activities in Turkana.

Mr. Eris appreciated the Chamber’s role in promoting a sustainable business environment and expressed Gulf Energy’s willingness to join the Turkana Chamber of Commerce at the county level. He noted that this would provide a foundation for stronger cooperation on initiatives aimed at supporting economic growth and local businesses.

As a way forward, the Chamber and Gulf Energy are working towards a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to guide their partnership. The MoU will seek to support smooth Gulf Energy operations while strengthening opportunities for local businesses and communities in its areas of operation.

KNCCI Turkana Chairman Mr.Justus Amoni Ewoi - Apa Lotom in the County Steering Committee meeting that approved the DRPNK Annual Investment Plan III for FY2026/27.

🌾 Loima – 10
🐟 Kalokol – 5
🐫 Kakuma – 3

The investment presents opportunities for local contractors, suppliers, farmers, agro-processors, livestock enterprises, transporters and MSMEs.

KNCCI Turkana will continue advocating for local procurement, private-sector participation and market-driven solutions so that these investments create sustainable business opportunities and inclusive economic growth.

Last week in Kakuma, we witnessed a powerful demonstration of enterprise, innovation, and resilience. The two-day Exhibition & Trade Fair hosted bt KKCF - Kakuma Kalobeyei Challenge Fund and co-hosted by the County Government of Turkana proved once again that Turkana is ripe for transformative commercial investment.

A huge commendation to the World Bank Group-IFC, AECF, the Department of Refugee Services led by Thomas Siele, Director for Trade Winnie Loposh, our financial sector partners (KCB, Equity Bank, ICEA Lion, Kenya Bankers Association), and development partners (WFP, UNHCR, Inkomoko,BLEC) for driving market-systems development in Turkana.

KNCCI Turkana Chapter was honored to be represented by the CEO Frankline Erukudi Paul at the Capacity Building and Consultation Workshop for the Development of a Quality Apprenticeship Framework in Kenya, held in Naivasha from 23rd to 26th March 2026.

The participation followed an invitation by the International Labour Organization under the PROSPECTS Partnership, in collaboration with the Federation of Kenya Employers.

The workshop brought together partners for consultation and capacity building to support the development of a framework aligned with ILO Recommendation No. 208 on Quality Apprenticeships.

Key discussions focused on addressing skills mismatch, promoting youth employment, integrating the informal sector, and aligning training with labour market needs. Emphasis was also placed on practical solutions, inclusive systems, and formal recognition of apprenticeships.

KNCCI Turkana remains committed to ensuring that the region actively contributes to and benefits from initiatives that strengthen skills development and economic opportunities.
