Employees pre-medical health checks are very important especially where employees are exposed to hazardous substances at work such as noise, dust,chemicals etc.In addition to ensuring that employees are fully fit at the outset and able to perform their work effeciently, It helps in camparisons in subsequent checks to see if there are any adverse effects which may be due to exposure to harmful substances present at work.The organisation may also use the information to evaluate the effectiveness of control measures in place.As part of this monitoring workplaces should also keep basic personal records which includes historical records of jobs performed , details of periods of exposure to harmful agents such as dusts, absence due to sicknesses or injury and cause or duration of absence.

Workers consultation is one of the important aspects of the workplace health and safety management.As the saying goes it is the wearer of a shoe who knows where it pinches most and as such employees are better placed to know problematic areas at their workplace.As such make a point of listening and talking to them about health and safety and the work they do.Also talk to them about how risks are being controlled and the best ways of providing information and training.
consultation being a two way process allows employees to raise concerns and influence decisions on managing health and safety.In small businesses you may choose to consult your workers directly however for larger businesses you may consult through a health and safety representative chosen by the employees themselves.This being critical aspect of health and safety management, many countries have laws and regulations that guide how this is done and ISO 45001standard for health and safety management has specific requirement for employees consultation and participation.
