From where we stand, waste is not abstract.
It is visible. It is local. It is daily.

This year’s focus is food waste and the numbers are hard to ignore:

Over 1 billion tonnes of food is wasted every year..
nearly 20% of what is available to consumers.

At the same time, 783 million people go hungry.

Food waste alone contributes up to 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions,
and a significant share of methane , one of the most potent climate drivers.

This is not just a waste problem.
It is a systems problem.

At Baus Taka, we are working to change that.

Not just by digitizing waste
but by collecting it, moving it, aggregating it, and building systems that make circularity possible.

Because waste is not the end of a product.
It is the beginning of a new value chain.

♻️ Cut food waste
🌍 Protect people and the planet

March 10–12 | Nairobi 🇰🇪

The Responsible Sourcing Initiative Convening brought together global voices across the recycling value chain to address a critical question:
How do we build systems that are not only sustainable, but also equitable and economically viable?

Over 3 days, discussions explored the realities of responsible sourcing ..from integrating waste pickers into formal systems, to ensuring traceability, strengthening EPR frameworks, and unlocking investment into the waste sector ♻️

A key reflection:
Sustainable supply chains cannot exist without inclusion, transparency, and shared value across all actors.

The future of circularity lies in systems thinking : connecting policy, private sector action, and community-driven solutions.

Proud to be contributing to this shift through Baus Taka.

Waves of Change 🌊 | Beach Cleanup organized by Pwani Marine Network :

Let’s come together for a morning by the ocean, doing something that truly matters.

📍 Kenyatta Beach
🗓 Saturday, 28th March 2026
⏰ 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (or until we clear it all!)

Our beaches give us so much..from livelihoods to moments of peace. This is our chance to give back. Every piece of plastic we pick is one less threat to our marine life and our coastline.

Come be part of a community that cares, meet like-minded people, and leave the beach better than we found it.

Bring your reusable gloves, a water bottle, and good energy (and a friend too 😉)

This week we are in Nairobi attending the Responsible Sourcing Initiative (RSI) Convening hosted by The Circulate Initiative.

The three-day convening brings together partners from Brazil, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Kenya and Viet Nam to reflect on progress in implementing the Harmonized Responsible Sourcing Framework for Recycled Plastics, while exploring key issues shaping the sector from responsible sourcing standards and human rights in recycling value chains to unlocking finance for the waste sector.

Important conversations like these help ensure that as recycling systems scale, they remain inclusive, transparent, and fair for all stakeholders, especially waste pickers who power the circular economy.

International Women’s Day 2026

Under the theme “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls,” today is a call to dismantle the barriers that continue to limit women’s participation and recognition across sectors.

Across East Africa, women waste pickers, recyclers, and wastepreneurs are already driving environmental and economic impact.

Through Baus Taka Enterprise and EAC-Women Wastepreneurs Association we continue working to ensure women are not only recognized in circular systems but positioned to lead them.

Inclusion is not symbolic. It is structural.

Let’s accelerate action to ensure women across the waste and circular economy value chains are recognized, supported, and empowered to lead.

On 3rd March, Baus Taka Enterprise joined waste pickers and regional leaders to commemorate International Waste Pickers Day in Dandora, Nairobi, an event organized by the Nairobi Recyclable Waste Pickers Welfare Association.

Together with the Chairman of the Kenya Waste Pickers Welfare Association, representatives from the Nigeria Waste Pickers Association, and the EAC Women Wastepreneurs Association, we honored the indispensable role waste pickers play in building circular economies across our region.

As we also marked Baus Taka Enterprise’s 5th Anniversary, we celebrated the right way — in solidarity and action alongside the communities at the heart of the circular economy.

This moment reaffirmed our commitment to championing dignity, recognition, and inclusive circular economy opportunities for waste pickers.
