The Kisumu Biashara Pawa Dialogue 2 brought entrepreneurs and ecosystem actors together around the power of mentoring in entrepreneurship — exploring how guidance, shared experiences and meaningful relationships can help entrepreneurs navigate challenges and grow with greater confidence.

Mentorship creates a space to ask questions, learn from both successes and setbacks, gain new perspectives and build connections that can influence the next stage of an entrepreneurial journey.

At Kaizen Consultancy, we are proud to contribute to Biashara Pawa through communications, PR, strategic storytelling and visibility, helping ensure that the conversations and experiences emerging from these engagements continue to be heard beyond the events themselves.

Our Founder, Charity Mbithe, also took on the MC role for the Kisumu dialogue, bringing together the different voices in the room and keeping the conversations moving as entrepreneurs and ecosystem actors shared, connected and learned from one another.

The Biashara Pawa initiative, under the IYBA-SEED programme, brings together IYBA-SEED Kenya, SNV, Responsible Business Consulting, Kaizen Consultancy, Wisehub, EldOHUB and Nakuru Box across Nakuru, Uasin Gishu and Kisumu, working together to support women's participation in sectors where they remain underrepresented through dialogue, mentorship, role models, storytelling and visibility.

Inspired by Simon Sinek, here are five lessons that remind us what effective leadership and communication look like in practice.

1. Start With Why

Entrepreneurship is a journey, and no one has to navigate it alone.

At the Eldoret Biashara Pawa Dialogue 2, we explored the power of mentoring in entrepreneurship and the difference that meaningful guidance, shared experiences and intentional connections can make in an entrepreneur’s journey.

A good mentor can offer more than advice. They can provide perspective, ask the difficult questions, open doors to new possibilities and help entrepreneurs make more informed decisions as they build and grow.

Did you know sticky notes weren't supposed to exist?

The story behind the Post-it® Note is a reminder that not every unexpected result is a failure.

In 1968, a scientist at 3M was trying to create a strong adhesive. Instead, he developed something completely different an adhesive that could stick lightly, be removed easily, and reused.

At the time, it wasn't what he had set out to create, and for years, no one knew what to do with it.

Then came a simple problem: another scientist needed a bookmark that would stay in place without damaging the pages of his book. He remembered the unusual adhesive, found a new use for it, and eventually, the Post-it® Note was born.

What initially seemed like a failed experiment simply hadn't found its purpose yet.

And perhaps that's something we can carry into the new week.

Sometimes an idea doesn't work because it needs a different approach. Sometimes a skill doesn't seem useful until the right opportunity comes along. And sometimes, what feels like a setback is simply leading you towards a different solution.

Not everything that doesn't go according to plan is a failure. Sometimes, you simply haven't discovered where it fits yet.

A productive week is not about squeezing more into your calendar. It is about being intentional with your time, attention and energy.

Here are 5 simple habits that can completely change how you move through your week:

1. Choose Your Three Most Important Priorities Per Day
Identify the three things that will make the biggest difference that day, and give them your best energy before everything else starts competing for your attention.

2. Plan Your Week Before It Plans You
Decide where your time needs to go before meetings, messages, requests and unexpected demands begin deciding for you.

3. Protect Focus Time From Constant Interruptions
Create uninterrupted blocks for meaningful work, because your most important thinking rarely happens between notifications.

4. Document Your Wins, Progress and Lessons
Keep a simple record of what you completed, improved, learned or moved forward - small progress is easy to forget when you are always chasing the next task.

5. Review. Reset. Readjust. Refocus. Restart.
Not every week will go according to plan; pause, learn from what happened, make the necessary adjustments and move forward without losing momentum.

You do not need a perfect week.

You need a week where the things that matter actually move forward.
