Glimpses from the recent Buyer Tour to Benin, organised by Afreximbank in collaboration with ARISE IIP and B2B partner B2B Africa.

The tour served as an impactful platform for buyers from Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Botswana, Mauritius, Ethiopia, Zambia and South Africa who experienced, first-hand, the industrial sourcing opportunities available in Benin - by ARISE IIP. Participants explored the zone’s manufacturing capabilities, product offerings, and export readiness across key sectors including agro-processing (with a strong focus on cashew), textiles & garments, and ceramics.

The delegation also received an overview of the African Buyers Programme (ABP) and the African Buyers Tour Programme (ABTP), gaining insights into how these initiatives connect African buyers with high-quality continental suppliers through curated tours, structured matchmaking, and access to trade-enabling tools.

“This is our future, this is Africa, and this is what we need in Africa.” – Roland Adaimoni, EFE ELO Services Ventures International.

At the recent , Roland shared why he travelled from Nigeria to Algiers. To seek partnerships, explore new markets, and see first-hand how Africa can trade with itself, collaborate across borders and move towards a shared future.

From hospitality to logistics and renewable energy, his business perspective demonstrates the fundamental value of IATF which extends beyond its role as a hub to do business. It is Africa’s future, a place where businesses come to connect, collaborate and imagine what Africa can achieve together.

As we look ahead to the next edition of IATF in Nigeria, what partnerships do you believe will make the biggest difference for Africa’s integration in the next two years?

may have drawn to a close last week, but the voices of those who made it a success continue to inspire. As part of our vox pop series, we are shining a light on the people and institutions behind Africa’s trade story.

🎤 Today, we hear from Inye Briggs, Trade and Regional Integration Expert at the African Development Bank Group and member of the IATF Advisory Council.

The African Development Bank Group has been a strong supporter of the IATF since its very first edition in 2018. Inye shared why the Fair matters so much for the Bank and for the continent:

It is one of the few platforms that brings together 48 African countries and partners from around the world, including the Caribbean.

For the Bank, Africa is the only constituency and IATF embodies this mission.

Beyond dialogue, the IATF is about real deals and opportunities, with the $44 billion trade and investment projection underlining its tangible impact.

“The IATF has delivered on its promises, creating a space where Africa’s potential translates into real business.” – Inye Briggs

Stay with us as we continue sharing more insights from the leaders and changemakers who made such a landmark event.

Yesterday evening the curtain closed on the 4th Intra-African Trade Fair in Algiers.

For one week, from 4–10 September, Algeria welcomed tens of thousands of visitors, exhibitors, and business leaders from every corner of Africa and beyond. They came with a shared purpose to unlock the promise of the African Continental Free Trade Area and build partnerships that will shape the future of our continent.

H.E. Larbi Latrèche, Commissioner General of IATF2025, reminded us that Algeria’s commitment to Africa is not new. From supporting liberation struggles to standing for sovereignty and independence, Algeria has always been on the side of Africa’s progress. Under the leadership of H.E. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, this commitment was reaffirmed and it is thanks to his support that this edition broke records in scale, ambition, and impact.

The Commissioner General also paid tribute to H.E. President Olusegun Obasanjo, whose wisdom and leadership once again guided IATF to success, and extended gratitude to the African Union, the AfCFTA Secretariat, and Afreximbank for their tireless partnership.

Behind the scenes, ministries, institutions, security services, and countless organisers worked together with one mission, to ensure that would not only succeed but inspire.

Thank you all and thank you Algeria for hosting !

, closing turned the spotlight to performance volumes delivered by Gainmore Zanamwe, Director Trade Facilitation and Investment Promotion at African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and the results spoke.

In a highly anticipated moment, the IATF Secretariat delivered its official report on the 2025 edition, proudly signaling that this year’s fair exceeded expectations.

The report began by highlighting high-level participation, with 20 Heads of State and Government attending, which is the highest number recorded since the event’s inception, highlighting growing commitment to Africa’s trade integration agenda.

In terms of exhibitor engagement, IATF2025 welcomed 2,148 exhibitors, surpassing its target of 2,000 and demonstrating the continent’s appetite for business expansion and cross-border opportunity.

Organisers had initially targeted the participation of 40 African countries, instead, 49 countries took national pavilions, signaling a powerful show of continental unity, similarly, special country and thematic focus days were expected to number four, while by the end of the fair, there were nine, underscoring the high demand for visibility and engagement.

The fair’s international reach also expanded, as the initial goal was to attract 75 countries, a total of 132 nations were represented, reinforcing IATF’s growing role as a global trade platform and on the buyer side, nearly 1,000 qualified buyers attended, significantly above the original target of 750 ensuring that exhibitors had strong commercial connections to tap into.

Perhaps most notably, IATF2025 delivered record-breaking results in terms of trade and investment deals, as instead of the target of $44 billion, confirmed deals had reached $48.3 billion with hosts, Algeria accounting for $11.4 billion in signed deals, with another $11.6 billion currently in the pipeline.

Even more impressive was the overall participation, what began with a target of 35,000 attendees ended with a staggering 112,000+ participants, thanks in large part to Algeria’s outstanding mobilisation efforts.

This edition, described by many as the most ambitious yet, has redefined what’s possible for intra-African trade, and was a celebration of what happens when political will, business drive, and continental vision come together on one platform.

💬 With IATF2025 exceeding nearly every target - from trade deals to participation what do you think this means for Africa’s ability to deliver on AfCFTA’s promise?

On Day 6 of , the Empowering Buyers session highlighted how demand-driven trade can unlock Africa’s industrial future
The session opened with Ebuka Okaja, Assistant Manager at African Export Import Bank - Afreximbank, who outlined how the African Buyers Program is designed to connect buyers with trusted African suppliers. He emphasised that by matching demand with capacity, Afreximbank ensures that intra-African trade under the AfCFTA is not only possible but scalable.

This was followed by a presentation from ARISE IIP, showcasing how Africa’s network of special industrial zones can provide the infrastructure needed to support production at scale. The message was clear: Africa is building the ecosystems from financing to infrastructure ,that give buyers the confidence to source locally.

Two practical examples brought the discussion to life. BOUBLENZA SARL presented carob powder as a versatile alternative to imported inputs. In food manufacturing, it offers a natural, cost-effective substitute for cocoa, while in the pet food industry it opens up entirely new market opportunities where cocoa cannot be used. Both applications demonstrate how local sourcing can reduce costs, spur innovation and unlock new industries.

The second example came from DLK, a Nigerian manufacturer proving that Africa can compete in products often dominated by imports from footwear to personal protective equipment to garments. By meeting international standards, DLK shows how empowered buyers can build resilient supply chains while supporting African jobs and enterprise.

The narrative throughout the session was consistent: when buyers are empowered with information, financing, and infrastructure, they not only expand their own opportunities but also drive industrialisation across the continent.

👉 Africa has the products and the capacity. The question is whether buyers will seize the opportunity to transform local sourcing into continental growth.

What does it take to truly accelerate Africa’s development?

Speaking at Intra-African EPC Workshop: Empowering African Contractors: Accelerating Infrastructure Development in Africa, Professor Kamel Rezig, Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion of Algeria, reminded us that there can be no promising investments, vibrant trade, or true continental integration without modern infrastructure.

From roads, ports and railways to financial hubs and smart cities, infrastructure is the backbone of Africa’s growth. Algeria, he said, has undergone a transformation, moving from importer to one of Africa’s top exporters of cement, ceramics, steel and other building materials, while also training the next generation of engineers and experts to serve the continent.

He praised for creating the platforms and financial instruments that allow African contractors to compete at scale: a shift from dependency to collaboration that unlocks large projects, innovation, and intra-African trade.

Algeria is committed to harnessing its resources and expertise to advance Africa’s renaissance - Rezig concluded, positioning Algeria as both a partner and a hub for continental cooperation.

Day 4 at showed why SAFEX is where trade meets culture, innovation, and opportunity.

The day unfolded like a festival, celebrating not only commerce but also Africa’s diverse sectors. Visitors discovered new products, tasted food that showcases the strength of the continent’s agriculture, and explored how trade can turn creativity into prosperity.

Conversations across countries focused on practical solutions for investors, manufacturers, and supply chain leaders. The message was clear: intra-African trade is the engine for creating wealth for Africans.

Day 3 of began with a strong call to strengthen Africa’s multilateral financial institutions to deliver Agenda 2063, highlighting how deeper collaboration can unlock long-term development.

Attention then turned to SMEs and global markets, where speakers stressed the need for tailored policies and smarter financing to help smaller enterprises scale and integrate into AfCFTA value chains.

A session on women in trade underlined how empowering female entrepreneurs is central to maximising Africa’s trade potential and competitiveness.

The spotlight in the afternoon shifted to Dangote Day, where senior leaders from across Dangote Group’s businesses – cement, sugar, salt, packaging – shared practical insights on building value chains that can compete globally. Their discussion underscored how industrial strength and sector expertise can shape Africa’s next phase of growth.

The day concluded with the launch of the IATF Development Impact Report and success stories of organisations leveraging trade to drive tangible results.

Which of today’s themes do you see as most critical: finance reform, SME growth, women in trade, or industrial leadership?
