Learning together. Growing together. 🤝

Our Grease Trap Technicians, together with our Head of Operations and Head of Commercial Operations, recently took part in a technical training session with our partners at ACO East Africa.

Led by Ndinda, Technical Customer Support Engineer, the session provided valuable insights into ACO grease separators, practical discussions around real-life maintenance challenges, and an open Q&A with the manufacturer.

By combining on-the-ground experience with technical expertise, we're continuously strengthening our knowledge to deliver more efficient, compliant, and reliable grease trap cleaning services for our customers.

A big thank you to ACO Kenya for supporting our team's continuous learning and helping us raise the standard of service across Kenya.

What many see as waste can become a valuable resource. When your grease trap is properly maintained by Muenzer Kenya, the brown grease and food waste it captures can be recovered, allowing the food elements to be separated and converted into safe, nutrient-rich fertiliser and animal feed.

This is another example of the circular economy in action—where responsible waste management helps give valuable resources a second life instead of sending them to waste.

A grease trap is designed to separate fats, oils and grease (FOG) from wastewater before they enter the drainage system, helping to protect plumbing, reduce blockages, and keep kitchens operating efficiently.

Here's how it works:
➡️ Wastewater enters the grease trap through the inlet.
➡️ Grease and oils naturally float to the surface, while heavier food particles and solids settle at the bottom.
➡️ The cleaner water in the middle layer flows safely through the outlet pipe into the wastewater system.

This simple separation process is what keeps fats, oils and grease out of your drains — preventing blockages, unpleasant odours, flooding, and costly maintenance. At Muenzer Kenya, we help businesses keep their grease traps functioning efficiently through professional servicing and responsible grease management.

The most expensive part of a building isn't always the one you can see.

Behind every commercial kitchen is a grease trap working quietly to intercept fats, oils, and grease (FOG) before they enter the wastewater system.

Without one — or without regular maintenance — these materials can lead to blocked drains, flooding, unpleasant odours, costly repairs, municipal fines, and even operational shutdowns.
A grease trap isn't just another plumbing fixture. It's a critical part of your building's infrastructure, protecting your operations, your plumbing, and the environment.

At Muenzer Kenya, we provide professional grease trap servicing that removes accumulated FOG safely and responsibly. The brown grease we collect is recovered for biodiesel production, supporting a more circular economy, while organic sludge is directed to biogas production.

Maintain it regularly. Avoid the hidden costs.

Used Cooking Oil is often seen as waste, but when handled improperly, its impact reaches far beyond the kitchen.

Reused cooking oil has been linked to serious public health risks, including cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal illness, and other long-term health concerns.

Just 1 litre of improperly disposed oil can pollute up to 1 million litres of water, placing additional strain on our environment and communities.

At the same time, used cooking oil is a valuable resource. When responsibly collected and recycled into biodiesel, it can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared to traditional fossil fuels, helping drive the transition to a more sustainable future.

At Muenzer Kenya, we work with businesses across the country to ensure used cooking oil is collected safely, managed responsibly, and transformed into sustainable solutions.

Bioenzymes in your grease trap? Here’s what they’re actually doing (and not doing).

Bioenzymes break down fats, oils, and food waste into smaller particles and disperse them into wastewater. While this may seem effective, the grease doesn’t disappear. It moves further down the drain, where it builds up over time and causes hidden blockages.

This can also create bigger maintenance issues downstream. The only effective solution is proper grease trap servicing — and that’s exactly what Muenzer Kenya provides.
