WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY.
PRESS STATEMENT.
Media being a sensitive platform in the modern world, must be given a free space to operate in. Thus the government through the respective state department must make sure that an all impressive laws that curtail the freedom of media is done away with and all inclusive laws that recognises media as a major tool in the fourth industrial revolution are implemented with due effect.
From the onset of the first world war to cold water and later gaining of independence by various states and countries, the freedom of the media has been severally undermined and many journalists have been killed in cold blood deaths, tortured, arrested and placed incommunicado without any trial at all. All these atrocities occurred during the dictatorial regime which leadership was marred by political assassinations, arrest, intimidation and court contempt.
As a result, media space has evolved and established a strong and viable platform that today can air out controversial news and information with limited restrictions. As we move forward in the Third Liberation, we are determined to achieving a totally free media space where practitioners will have the total rights to discharge their duties as may be appropriate and within the law without having to be cleared by government authorities before the particular assignment is published and printed no matter how weighty the information maybe except from when it undermines the security of that particular state.
In conclusion, thanks to all selfless journalists who have, in hard situations, that were very compromising, brought us news and relevant information for the benefit of the consumers. Special thanks to the media House owners and other sponsors for the continued support in the third Liberation. God bless you all.
Regards,
Felix Obuya.
