As we mark Mashujaa Day 2025, we do so with heavy yet grateful hearts.

This year, Kenya celebrates her heroes while having just laid to rest one of the greatest, Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga, a true Shujaa of Democracy whose courage, endurance, and love for this nation reshaped our destiny.

As we honour the freedom fighters of our past, we also salute the everyday heroes of today, teachers, health workers, farmers, youth, voters who never miss the long voting queues, always hopeful for a better Kenya, and everyone whose efforts keep the nation’s dream alive.

May this Mashujaa Day remind us that heroism lives not only in great sacrifice but also in simple acts of service, compassion, and integrity.

My heart is heavy with unimaginable grief as we prepare for your final farewell, Baba, the Right Honourable Raila Amollo Odinga, this Sunday, October 19, 2025.

To you, Mama Ida, Rosemary, Raila Junior, Winnie, and the entire Odinga family, my deepest and most heartfelt condolences.

As your political son, MP for Westlands and an aspiring Governor in Bungoma County, I have lost more than just my Party Leader, I have lost a personal friend, mentor, and father figure whose courage defined my political journey. Your passing is an irreparable blow to me, to many Kenyans, and to the world at large.

For the ODM Party, we have lost the foundation of our movement, the greatest democratic warrior this nation has ever known.

For Kenya, we mourn the architect of constitutionalism, devolution, and justice.

The global community feels this loss too. As a revered Pan-Africanist and statesman, your lifelong fight for good governance and pluralism inspired citizens across Africa and the entire world.

To the Government of Kenya and all friends, we stand in solidarity as Kenyans during this dark hour and emulate the peace that you always fought for.

We commit to uphold the vision and governance of a just nation that you so tirelessly worked to build.

Good morning Kenya. A friend you share the field with is one who either runs with you toward destiny or shows you where to score in pursuit of it.

For me, sharing the same side of the pitch with the late Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga was more than politics, it was purpose, mentorship, and passion, from our shared love for Arsenal to nurturing young talents on the field.

As the nation pauses today to honour Baba, may we find strength in his legacy, to keep playing, keep believing, and keep scoring for Kenya. Have a good day.

From myselHon. Timothy Wanyonyi Wanyonyi, my family, the great people of Westlands Constituency and Bungoma County; It is with a heart shattered by profound sorrow and disbelief that I mourn the passing of my mentor, my father-figure, and the greatest leader of our time, the Right Honourable Raila Amollo Odinga.

The pain of this loss is immense, not just for the Odinga family, but for every Kenyan who believed in his unwavering vision for a just and equitable nation.

To me, Baba was far more than the ODM Leader or the opposition doyen; he was the guiding star who shaped my political path.

He taught me that true leadership is defined by selfless sacrifice and a passionate, relentless fight for the oppressed.

His courage was infectious; his spirit, indomitable.
His legacy is indelibly etched in the foundation of our modern democracy, in the fight for devolution, and in the relentless pursuit of constitutionalism.

Kenya has lost its greatest champion for the common mwananchi. Africa has lost a Pan-Africanist, and the world has lost a voice of change, equality and fairness.

To Mama Ida, the children, and the entire family, and to all Kenyans, I extend my most heartfelt and touching condolences.

We hold you in our prayers during this impossibly dark hour.

I stand in solidarity with all Kenyans as we collectively mourn this national hero.

We promise to honour his memory by carrying forward the torch of reforms he lit.
