Kenya Creates Films Premiere:

DATE: Friday, 21st February, 2025.
VENUE: Shalom Guest House Grounds, after The Junction Mall, along Ngong Road.
TIME: From 5 pm.

Join us for an evening of bold, personal stories that shine a light on real conversations around Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights and Justice (SRHRJ) in Kenya, with a focus on the experiences of young people. Kenya Creates is a collaboration between Docubox, International Resource for Impact and Storytelling (IRIS), and Journalists for Human Rights (JHR).

Together with an incredible group of diverse creatives, we've crafted a collection of four short films that explore how young people in Kenya connect with their bodies, their autonomy, and their rights. These four films are raw, real, and full of heartโ€”each one reflecting the experiences that shape who we are and how we navigate love, identity, and relationships.

Coming to the big screen:

1. "Bella is Dying" โ€“ Directed by Abigail Arunga & Mkaiwawi โ€˜MKโ€™ Mwakaba, Produced by James Kombo.

"The Sad Story" is a somber reflection on the spiritual and environmental disconnection in modern Kenyan society. It highlights the urgent need for a collective awakening to respect and protect the environment, transcending the superficial solutions offered by current political and economic systems. The narrator remains trapped in Athi River, embodying the broader societal paralysis in the face of an escalating ecological crisis.

Thanks to Professor Wandia M. Njoya and Alvina Gachugu for collaborating with me in bringing this film to life.
