Ever have days where you’re “busy all day”… but at the end of the week, you realize you didn’t move an inch?

Jean-Henri Fabre once described a famous observation about processionary caterpillars — they travel in a line, each one following the one ahead as if by instinct.

He carefully arranged a whole group to crawl around the rim of a flowerpot, linking the leader to the last one, forming a closed circle.

And here’s the detail Fabre wrote down clearly:
Inside the circle, he placed a bundle of pine needles to lure them — only about 9 inches (around 23 cm) away. 🌿
Yet… none of them turned.

They kept tracing the “path” of each other, circling the rim for “seven times twenty-four hours” — a full 7 days. On the 8th day, they finally began to leave the rim and head back to their nest. ⏳

From that story, I take 3 real-life reminders:

1) Being busy isn’t the same as making progress.
You can work nonstop… and still be no closer to your goal.

2) Following the crowd doesn’t automatically mean you’re on the right path.
Before you follow, ask: where am I going — and why? 🧭

3) What worked before might not work now.
Sometimes what keeps you “safe” is the same thing keeping you stuck.

Every now and then, pause for 10 seconds.
Lift your head.
And ask one question: “Am I moving forward… or just walking in circles?”
