Many Kenyans are asking questions about the Ebola quarantine facility reportedly being built at Laikipia Air Base. From my experience, military facilities are generally restricted to serving military personnel and their families.
Just last week, when I sought treatment at Kahawa Barracks, I was turned away because I am not a serving military officer and neither is my wife. That experience made me wonder: if ordinary civilians cannot easily access services within military installations, how will the proposed quarantine facility benefit the average Kenyan during a public health emergency?
The government should clearly explain who will have access to the facility and how it will serve the wider public. Transparency will help address concerns and assure Kenyans that public health infrastructure is being developed for the benefit of all citizens, not only a privileged few. Videlis Ongori Juma
