Fostering a Healthy Workplace Culture: Don't Promote Toxic Managers
In our quest to cultivate a thriving workplace culture, one of the things that we have to do is to uproot toxic or unhealthy culture. The actions of the leadership must be seen to align with and promote the desired culture.
For example, we cannot be seeking to entrench a positive culture while at the same time promoting toxic managers. That would be counter-productive.
Some of the behaviours of toxic managers are:-
1. Withholding information
2. Dismissing employee concerns
3. Failing to provide clear expectations
4. Constant and continuous criticism
5. Favouritism
6. All forms of harassment, including but not limited to sexual and/or emotional
For a healthy culture to be entrenched, all these and other aspects of toxic culture have to be punished or curtailed.
