Successful Launch of Capacity Building and Local Product Introduction in Somalia
Afrifuture Management Consult Ltd is proud to announce the successful launch of a comprehensive capacity-building activity for beneficiaries engaged in the tomato value chain in Gobweyn Village, Jubaland. This initiative was implemented through a consultancy contract with ALIGHT, the implementing agency, and funded by GIZ. The project aims to promote local agro-processing industries and enhance women-led entrepreneurship by equipping beneficiaries with practical skills in operating tomato processing machines, product development, and market readiness.
The training focuses on building technical and entrepreneurial capacities. Participants were trained on how to operate and maintain agro-processing machines, particularly those used in the production of tomato ketchup, paste, and sauce. They also received hands-on support in developing quality products that meet market standards and learned how to position these products in the local market through branding, packaging, and pricing strategies.
The launch event was graced by high-level dignitaries, including Mr Ibrahim Bajuni the Minister of Trade and Commerce of Jubaland State of Somalia, who served as the Guest of Honour, and was accompanied by Mr Yussuf, the Minister of Religious Affairs. Both ministers applauded the project for its contribution to local economic development, employment creation, and community empowerment, particularly for women and youth. They expressed their support for the expansion of such initiatives across the region.
A major highlight of the event was the official launch of locally processed tomato products into the market. Under the brand name Jubba Agrifresh Company Ltd a women-led enterprise formed as a result of this project—the products, including tomato ketchup, paste, and sauce, were introduced to the local market. These products offer a fresh, homegrown alternative to imported goods and represent a significant milestone in promoting local value addition and self-reliance.
The dignitaries and guests had the opportunity buy the products, tour the processing machines, witness live demonstrations of the machines in use, and sample the newly developed products. Their feedback was highly positive, and they emphasized the importance of replicating this model in other regions of Somalia. The event marks a significant achievement in fostering inclusive economic growth, job creation, and sustainable livelihoods through strategic partnerships and community-driven
Afrifuture Management Consult Ltd extends its gratitude to ALIGHT, GIZ, the Government of Jubaland, and all stakeholders who played a role in making this milestone possible.
