Thank you KOMB GREEN Solutions for taking part in the 13th Session of House of Genius.
Komb Green Solutions, a community-based organisation in Korogocho Slum, was founded by youth in June 2017. The core mission centres around cleaning and restoring the Nairobi River and its tributaries. Clean-up efforts as income-generating activities within riverine communities, have prevented further descent into crime. The organisation's inception coincided with a government-funded project, facilitated by Italian Cooperation, of constructing a bridge connecting the Korogocho and Dandora communities. The project aimed to address the challenges exacerbated by high youth unemployment rates in Korogocho, where over 50 youths succumbed to various vices. The group of youth decided to reclaim a dumpsite along the riverbank, notorious for harbouring drug peddlers and users. Through their dedication and passion, they transformed the site into a lush, green space, known as Korogocho People's Park. Komb Green Solutions strives to revitalise riparian zones in Korogocho, manage waste effectively, guide youth away from crime, create income opportunities, advocate for the environment, provide education and skills, ensure sustainability, and economically empower individuals.
