: isn't it time we talked about the huge challenges faced when it comes to periods and disability?
I'm not disabled.
I had surgery one week ago to repair a torn hip labrum (for those eagle-eyed followers - yes i had this done in September but it didn't work properly so had to have it redone)
and the result is that I am on crutches for six weeks.
I cannot, without aid, get dressed properly, put on my socks or shoes, I can't climb stairs or even think about squatting.
I need assistance.
But my limits are temporary and should last a couple of months tops.
But within that time I will get my period.
And here's where it gets extremely difficult because I don't know what I will do.
I can't possibly use a cup - no chance of squatting to get it in or out.
Or a tampon - same as above.
So I'm left with pads.
Have we even stopped to consider the impact of periods when you have a disability?
Have we thought about the lack of options and products available?
Have we even asked people with disabilities how they feel or how they manage?
Or have we presumed, as always, and hope that nothing more is said.
What are your thoughts?
