From a cyber cafe to videography, photography, and audio-visul production - celebrating Michael Kithaka.
Michael is the epitome of trailblazing youth entrepreneur.
Simon Muriungi, a business mentor/ coach, began the mentorship journey with Michael in January 2023.
Then Michael operated a cyber cafe and employed 2 casuals to assist in cyber operations.
As the mentorship journey began with a baseline, Simon Noted Michael was ambitious, industrous, curious to learn, and ready to grow his business. His love for his customers was your first impression whenever you saw him. He served them well, and they loved him. Notably, every evening, Michael would have three guest deaf ladies who came to use his WiFi for their tiktok and have stories with Michael cause he is good in sign language.
After baseline, mentorship began with business gap identification using various tools, including Business Model Canvas ( BMC) M7 framework, among others.
The business had several gaps that included inadequate revenue streams due to shrinking customer base due to increased access to laptops, tablets, and comps in Mwea, mobile phone Cam scanners, and technology advancement in general The rest were operational gaps that were closed easily.
The mentorship gave focus to market diversification and alternative revenue streams. To close the two gaps, we had options of wifi connections in Mwea, county tender servicing, outsourcing printing jobs and utilising Michael's skills and training as a journalist to offer videography, photography and recording services.
The mentorship settled on photography, videography, and audio visual recoding, which was guided by market research.
The mentor and mentor agreed that the ex*****on would take 11 months to start. But who is Michael 🤔 he is a go-getter (Yule Mzee)
After drawing the business plan ( BMC), we knew raising money for the resources needed for the equipment and buying a car to enable smooth movements to and from events was not an easy task.
With guidance from Simon, Michael managed this in just 7 months. He went out of his way and raised the resources.
Two years later, Michael has employed 8 crew members, has moved from the initial 4 counties targets to now over 14, and is ready to go to every corner of Kenya. He also has grown his revenue hundred folds.
Michael serves government institutions,individuals, real estate companies, and Non- governmental organizations among other clients that come his way.
