Tana River Bridge reopens

The Tana River Bridge along the A3 Corridor (Ukasi–Garissa–Modika Road) was reopened on October 6, 2026.

The bridge, that connects and Tana River Counties along the A3 Highway, restores a critical link for motorists, traders and communities, easing the movement of people and goods between Garissa and surrounding areas

The new 150-metre bridge, part of a project valued around Sh 1.77 billion, includes 2.6 km of approach roads

Full clearance has been granted for all vehicle categories to resume crossing

The older adjacent bridge is retained for pedestrians, boda boda and livestock

Motorists are urged to strictly observe prescribed axle-load limits and speed restrictions

Additional civil works are ongoing around the structure to manage high-water flows and reduce seasonal flood risks in the lower Tana basin.
