Alpinia zerumbet (variegated) commonly known as Ginger is another good plant for your landscape. It does well in both full sun and partial shade. It is used in cuisine and traditional medicine in Asia. However, in Kenya, we mainly use it for it’s ornamental purpose.

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) is an evergreen shrub with a milliard if uses; culinary, medicinal and ornamental. If it isn’t in your kitchen as a dried or fresh herb, it should be in your garden. It’s a hardy, drought tolerant plant that’s easy to grow.
Add a few of these shrubs into your garden and you’ll have a perpetual supply of this herb while it serves as an ornamental shrub in your garden.

Hibiscus rosa-sinensis is an evergreen shrub/small tree commonly known as Chinese Hibiscus. It does very well in the tropics and subtropics hence a quite common plant in Kenya. It is mostly grown here as an ornamental plant however it serves multiple purposes in Asia as an edible plant, a cosmetic raw material and as source of dye.
