On Tuesday, the Strathmore Africa Case Centre had the pleasure of hosting a pre-conference Case Teaching Session for Ivey Publishing's 39 Country Initiative during the AIB - Africa Conference 2026.

The session, delivered by Prof. Michael Roberts, brought together faculty and practitioners passionate about strengthening the use of African case studies in classrooms and expanding the development of context-rich teaching materials from the continent. Through engaging discussions and practical teaching insights, participants explored how case-based learning can deepen classroom engagement while bringing African business realities to the forefront of management education.

We are excited about the growing collaboration between institutions committed to amplifying African voices, experiences, and business contexts through case writing and case teaching. Partnerships such as these create important opportunities to build local capacity, increase the visibility of African enterprises, and support more globally relevant business education.

A big thank you to everyone who participated, shared their experiences, and contributed to the conversations. We look forward to what lies ahead as we continue working together to further African case study development and use across the continent and beyond.

This week, we are honoured to host the AIB -Africa Conference 2026. Themed "Navigating Uncertainty, Complexity, and Redefining Limits," this brings together more than 140 researchers representing 39 countries across the globe.

Dr. Caesar J.Muriithi Mwangi welcomed the delegates to Strathmore Business School (SBS), emphasizing that the youthfulness of the continent is among the most significant strengths and advantages of Africa. Dr. Mwangi pointed out that creating opportunities for youth involves working together, innovating and being entrepreneurial, especially considering the changing dynamics of the global community.

In his remarks, Prof. Vincent Ogutu emphasized the dynamism, resilience, and hospitality of the continent. He called upon the delegates to look forward to an exciting future of the continent and work toward realizing it, stressing that it all starts with vision, learning, and doing.

In his opening address, the Conference Chair,
Prof Elie Chrysostome, noted the continued interest “ The African context has recently been of increasing interest for International Business Scholars. The conference examines its challenges and complexities and explores how companies involved in international business on the continent can effectively respond to them”

Delivering his address on “Disruptions in the Global Environment: Challenges and Opportunities for the International SME” Prof Gary Knight outlined the key global disruptions influencing the international business environment today – namely, demographic change, technological progress, sustainability issues, and changes in the global economic environment. The speaker pointed out that even though the identified disruptions pose challenges to organizations, they also bring about many opportunities for innovation and research.

The discussions continue to reinforce the conference theme: “Navigating Uncertainty, Complexity, and Redefining Limits: Africa’s Role in Shaping Global Business.”

Last night, the Strathmore Business School (SBS) held the 2nd SBS Alumni Presidents Roundtable at Tamarind Tree Hotel in partnership with KCB Group and Master card, an event which saw numerous professionals come together to hold thought-provoking discussions about leadership and transformation.

One of the main reflections that came out of this event was inspired by the story of the hummingbird, where it shows that change starts from doing one thing more. While everyone else sits by to watch everything happen, leadership means stepping forward and contributing something.

Leadership does not necessarily come from big actions alone; rather, it comes from the ability to serve, take action, and be of assistance, even in the smallest of ways. More individuals must do their part in order for the impact of everyone to take effect.

In discussions about leadership and purpose as the future unfolds, this evening was a reminder that we are all given the chance to participate in making this world a better place. Just as the hummingbird in the story did, let us take the initiative to do our own part by taking a little action. That’s what leadership is all about.

The event culminated in the official launch of the Alumni Travel Cardan initiative unveiled in collaboration with Mastercard and KCB Group. This shows that there have been efforts towards enhancing the relationship with alumni members by giving them something extra of value.

Today, Strathmore Business School was privileged to host the International Coaching week Celebration Summit 2026, where leading individuals from the fields of leadership, coaching, human resources, and learning came together to discuss matters related to organizational learning and leadership development.

Taking place under the theme “Beyond Training: Delivering Sustained Performance via Coaching,” the summit discussed ways in which organizations can shift focus away from one-time training initiatives to foster a culture of coaching that brings about lasting behavioural changes, innovation, and performance.

As speakers discussed during the keynotes and panel sessions, the relevance of continuous learning has never been more relevant than it is today in light of developments brought about by technology and AI.

Speakers pointed out that training focuses on knowledge transfer, but coaching allows for embedding learning into practice, mind-set, and leadership.

Some of the main topics discussed include:
🔹 Developing coaching cultures starting from the highest levels of leadership
🔹 Creating psychologically safe environments for innovative development and progress
🔹 Assessing the sustainability and return on coaching investments
🔹 Enabling generationally diverse teams through adaptive leadership and communication
🔹 Promoting self-awareness, accountability, and continuous improvement in organizations

The important insight that was mentioned during the summit includes:
"Learning is a process, not an event."

With all the transformations and changes in the corporate environment, the summit highlighted the significance of people-oriented leadership and cultures of learning and coaching.
