Part 2:

In government, is grateful to be in a position where he can effect change and is acutely aware of the potential of the industry and the challenges it faces, having come from the private sector. He hopes to be able to grow ICT into its full potential
~

His main advice of the night?
That local companies should aim higher! The ICT world is your oyster
~

“We shouldn’t let foreign companies dominate the sector. There is a misconception that government business is already decided before the tender is even out, but this is not true.
We are the biggest cheerleaders for the local startup. In fact, Local companies are always considered first in the tendering process, with an automatic 15% point advantage in the bid vetting.”
~

Overall it was a great opportunity to demystify the Cabinet Secretary
~

Look out for the next + collaboration

Part 1
and came together to host ICT Cabinet Secretary for a valuable discussion for techpreneurs, those looking to do business in ICT with government, the private sector and outside investors who would like to take advantage of the Silicon Savannah promise
~
It was a relaxed, open and free discussion, with the CS gracefully taking some hard questions ( what happened to Konza City?) from the crowd
~
We saw a side of him much unlike the stoic administration man we all see in the news
~
Some of the talking points included his early years, from his schooling in the UK to life as a hustler doing websites for payment in kind (yes, he’s been there too) Starting up Wananchi online and what most people know him for, being Google’s first employee in Sub-saharan Africa.
