For his accomplishments ,it would be easy to assume Samuel Mue would be all too serious. On the contrary, along to the steadiness and seriousness he brings to work, Samuel describes himself as joyful, quick to laugh, and one who genuinely loves making friends.
Raised in multiple cultural environments, Samuel has a knack for initiating conversation anywhere he finds himself.
At the very core, he describes himself as a young African on the quest to find his way in the world.
Immersing himself in the sustainability space wasn’t by chance. He was drawn to it because he noticed a gap; the exclusion of young, everyday people in sustainability conversations who don’t have access to the rooms in which these policies are made.
“We reduce climate and sustainability to just trees, but it is really about the way we move, the way we live, the way we build and create. That interconnectedness drew me in, and the opportunity it presents for holistic growth, job creation, and real transformation for people.”
Over the last few years, Samuel has served in notable organisations: the International Crisis Group, Green Generation Initiative & currently Sustainable Kenya, while volunteering at Kenya Ni Mimi, SDG4 Youth and Student Network, Young Peoples' Action Team (Generation Unlimited).
His journey hasn’t been smooth sailing, but he attributes his wins to God’s grace, the courage to keep moving and showing up authentically.
Being in multiple leadership positions, he’s observed that the most important skill that leaders need are interpersonal skills; the ability to truly connect with people. In his view, this is the way to build strong teams that are able to give results.
Asked what plant best reflects his personality, he says Moringa. “Useful in every single part of it, nothing goes to waste, resilient, grows fast, and deeply rooted in African soil. That feels about right.”
