There was a time when success was measured by profit only. Now, that story has changed.

Organizations are being asked to account for something bigger; the lives they touch and the environment they shape.
This is the Triple Bottom Line- People, Planet, and Profit.

In communications, it reframes the narrative entirely. PR is no longer just about telling a company’s financial success story, but about showing how that success coexists with social impact and environmental responsibility.

When we think of sustainability, our minds often leap to grand corporate initiatives. But at Hemingways Eden Residence, gardener Leah Nyaguthii reminds us that the deepest impact starts with small, intentional actions rooted in the soil.

For Leah, sustainability is a daily practice. Her philosophy is beautifully simple; nature cannot be rushed. Instead of forcing outcomes, she works in harmony with the seasons nourishing the soil with compost, rotating crops, and tending to a vibrant mix of indigenous vegetables and herbs with quiet patience. In return, the land provides pure, fresh nourishment for hotel guests

Leah’s garden is also a space for reconnection. She recalls a guest family where the children initially spent their stay glued to their tablets. A Gentle invitation for them to pick and taste a ripe cherry tomato straight from the vine, and the screens were instantly forgotten. By sparking that simple curiosity, Leah bridges the gap between modern life and the origin of food.

Beyond cultivation, Leah inspires guests to start small; even if it’s just a single pot of herbs on a balcony.

Through her devotion at Hemingways Eden kitchen garden,Leah proves that eco-consciousness doesn’t require grand gestures. When we approach the earth with care and patience, even the smallest seed can cultivate a more sustainable world.

For his accomplishments ,it would be easy to assume Samuel Mue would be all too serious. On the contrary, along to the steadiness and seriousness he brings to work, Samuel describes himself as joyful, quick to laugh, and one who genuinely loves making friends.

Raised in multiple cultural environments, Samuel has a knack for initiating conversation anywhere he finds himself.

At the very core, he describes himself as a young African on the quest to find his way in the world.

Immersing himself in the sustainability space wasn’t by chance. He was drawn to it because he noticed a gap; the exclusion of young, everyday people in sustainability conversations who don’t have access to the rooms in which these policies are made.

“We reduce climate and sustainability to just trees, but it is really about the way we move, the way we live, the way we build and create. That interconnectedness drew me in, and the opportunity it presents for holistic growth, job creation, and real transformation for people.”

Over the last few years, Samuel has served in notable organisations: the International Crisis Group, Green Generation Initiative & currently Sustainable Kenya, while volunteering at Kenya Ni Mimi, SDG4 Youth and Student Network, Young Peoples' Action Team (Generation Unlimited).

His journey hasn’t been smooth sailing, but he attributes his wins to God’s grace, the courage to keep moving and showing up authentically.

Being in multiple leadership positions, he’s observed that the most important skill that leaders need are interpersonal skills; the ability to truly connect with people. In his view, this is the way to build strong teams that are able to give results.

Asked what plant best reflects his personality, he says Moringa. “Useful in every single part of it, nothing goes to waste, resilient, grows fast, and deeply rooted in African soil. That feels about right.”

Behind every successful environmental movement is a narrative that moved people to action. As we focus on today’s theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future,” we are reminded that as PR and communications specialists, we have power as cultural architects.

We hold the tools to simplify complex eco-jargon, and champion the organizations driving actual, boots-on-the-ground impact.

Our role in the green transition isn’t to simply manage reputations or craft clever copy; it is to tell authentic, transparent stories that turn climate awareness into active mobilization.

Greenwashing happens when an organization presents itself as more environmentally responsible than it actually is. 🌱

In PR, this is a major credibility risk because audiences today are more informed and skeptical than ever. Strong communication must be backed by real action, otherwise, sustainability messaging quickly turns into reputation damage instead of reputation building.

For PR and comms pros, our eyes are constantly glued to monitors, phone screens, and media dashboards. This Wellness Wednesday, let’s focus on sensory sustainability.

True creative longevity requires intentional moments of slow living and offline re-centering. This week, try a visual detox: step away from your desk for lunch, take a walk without your phone, or sketch your thoughts on actual paper instead of a tablet.

Reclaiming your offline space isn't unproductive; it’s how you refill the creative well so you can keep bringing fresh, impactful ideas to the table.
