Robbers walked into Outspan Hospital in Nyeri on Monday and made off with Sh300,000 and a number of cheques.
According to the hospital’s human resources manager, Zipporah Wachira, the three smartly dressed young men arrived minutes to 11am.
Two posed as patients and moved from one office to another.
“They were carrying paper bags and workers thought they were ordinary patients or visitors,” Ms Wachira said.
Around 1pm, the men entered the cash office pretending to make payments, but they ended up stealing the money.
They threatened to shoot the security officer at the gate.
The hospital's management reported the robbery to the police.
A few minutes later in Nyeri Town, three armed men on a motorcycle attacked a Muga Supermarket worker who was heading to the bank and stole an unknown amount of money.
Residents blamed police laxity for the increased insecurity.
County Commissioner Michael ole Tialal said police had not arrested any member of the gangs operating on motorbikes.
“We are devising ways of fighting crime. It is unfortunate that the gangs can operate with impunity in broad daylight,” he said.
