There a lot of blogs in kenya portraying farming as easy way to make money in Kenya.In farming you got to have skin in the game and as well maintain mobility. A successful entreprenuer/farmer doesn't engage in any business to get rich,if that's the idea of being young and famous you will incur revision of belief.
Let me focus with farming,I wil talk about other business in another future post esp finance and real estate.
There A lot of challenges encountered by farmers and most important is the value chain.The brokers mastered the art of fixing the price and make most farmers unable to cater for their future plans and expansion to better their life.
Most young, pple with career does telephone farming which is short term and unsustainable. There are schemes that indicates farming returns to provide high return on investment above the interest rates which is absolutely wrong.
Farming is like any other business and the objective is to provide solution to the community and not to focus on money aspect.The more problem you solve the more wealth you create.
An established farm takes >8years to be most profitable and for its sustainablity it pursues long term investments
Short term crops are bound with biggest problems of market fluctuations due to law of demand and supply.
The aspect of successful and sustainable business is the following:willingness to take chances,unique value,customer-centric approach,strong vision,passionate leaders,empowered employees,adaptability and diversity.
