Genesis 6:1-7

Men began to multiply even before Cain left. We don't see the women or wives listed in Genesis 5, but they were there, and other people were there. In fact, if you do a population calculation of how many people could have lived before the flood, it is very high. Especially when we take into account that they lived hundreds of years. If we consider the current growth rate of the world and look at from Adam to the flood, we could even be having like millions of people by then.

A lot of people existed before the flood, and only a minority was saved in the ark. Here, we are trying to study the Bible, and we for sure are not the only ones saved in the world. But definitely, a minority of people in the world as it has clearly always been because when sin entered, men chose to follow the desires of their hearts. However noble these desires are in the eyes of the world, GOD calls them evil, continually. This is the condition back here in Genesis 6, before the flood.

Genesis 6:2 ~ We see here in verse 2, very simply there is marriage going on. We'll cover the controversies in this verse later. In Matthew 24:37-38, we know that people were marrying before the flood. JESUS describes the judgement in the days of Noah being the same as how it shall be before HE comes back. What is JESUS saying by this? HE is saying they lived life however they wanted, rejecting all those preachers of righteousness back there, including Noah. With it denying that any judgement could happen. That's what JESUS describes. We have the same cross reference in Luke 17.

Genesis 6:3 ~ we know in Genesis 2:7, when GOD made man out of the dust of the ground, HE breathed into him life and made him a living soul. See (Ecclesiastes 12:7). We learn from the Bible that we are not just dust or flesh, but we are also the spirit that we are given by GOD. We don't get the spirit from the earth. Something we sometimes forget that the very life we have is given to us by GOD.

SPIRITUAL TREATMENT FOR SIN, SELFISHNESS

Daniel 10:6-9, the same description in Revelation 1. This is JESUS CHRIST. Then we have the same thing that happened to Paul on his way to Damascus. When he encountered JESUS, he was humbled. In verse 8, no strength remained in Daniel. What do we call that? Humility, humility feels like that, not even our strength but HIS strength, not our words and truth, but HIS WORD and TRUTH.

We would ask why would GOD want us to feel this way, like Daniel, Isaiah, Paul, etc? Well, it's not that HE wants us to feel that way, but this is what we are in relation to HIM. We have to know the truth, and the way to understand GOD and spiritual strength is to understand the truth of who we are and who GOD is. In Luke 5:8, we see this too, after Peter saw the miracle THE LORD performed. Revelation 1:17 is another one, John falling at the feet of THE LORD.

The Bible says no man will glory in HIS presence. That's humility. Recognizing the truth of this, we can not glory in the presence of THE LORD. For this reason, men, because they want to glory(selfishness), deny GOD while religiosity also likes glorying and denies the truth of The Gospel. But humility is the spiritual treatment here. It hurts our self-esteem, but GOD is true, so? When we believe the truth about WHO GOD is, we are all humbled, not needing self-esteem anymore but only GRACE esteem, only CHRIST’S esteem.

By the way, whether we want to or not, we will be humbled by GOD eventually. Either by GOD'S wrath or by JESUS CHRIST(by HIS finished works). Because, one day, we will behold GOD when HE returns, and all will be humbled, including all creations. If it's not according to the right way, it's gonna hurt real bad(hell and wrath). But if we have already recognised that we are not the it but GOD is and JESUS CHRIST is The holy ONE, then you know what happens? HE gives us salvation because our mind is right.

We shall continue on Saturday.

RECONCILIATION

John 1:11

When JESUS came in HIS earthly ministry, HE said that HE came to HIS own. HIS own house, people, friends, and not HIS enemies. See, GOD would have expected rejection if HE came to a Gentile nation. As a matter of fact, all Gentiles nations we see in the Bible didn't acknowledge HIM. They even ridiculed HIM.

JESUS came to HIS friends, Israel, but they rejected HIM. We read in (Zechariah 13:6), talking about CHRIST, and HE was wounded in the house of HIS friends.

Israel was GOD'S friend. They did not need reconciliation with GOD. They were already friends with HIM through the promise HE made to Abraham, Jacob, and Isaac. They could have just walked into the kingdom as GOD'S friends if they just obeyed GOD. We never received that promise, GOD never offered us friendship. John 15:13-15, JESUS, again here teaches the little flock group, the believing remnant group of Israel that also followed JESUS. HE teaches them how they're HIS friends and not servants.

We read Romans 5:8, and know there is a greater love than the one in John 15:13, and it's GOD'S love. The one in John is man's love. GOD'S love surpasses man's love, in GOD'S love, HE dies for HIS enemies, sinners, ungodly people through JESUS CHRIST. There is a big difference between John 15:13 and Romans 5:8. So the message to Israel is, "You're my friends, and I have come for you."

John 15:14, look at the condition. Now, this is not the world's idea of friendship. Remember before we described what reconciliation and friendship meant. It meant you needed to be on the same page. You need to have something in common. It's really hard to have friendship with someone you have nothing in common with. Eg. When GOD says CHRIST finished works is righteousness, but the world and religion says its man's works that is righteousness. How's GOD supposed to be friends with that?

We'll leave it at this today and continue on Friday.

Genesis 6:1-7

Five verses in the beginning of this chapter are very controversial and ambiguous. We'll move over them patiently. We only have six chapters in our Bibles that describe the world before the flood. From these, we do know some things that are pertinent for our understanding of how GOD is operating in the world. There is a lot of information that happened that is not recorded in the Bible. Enough though is recorded, which is significant for the sake of us understanding GOD'S will in the scripture.

We see a minority choosing GOD while a majority rejected GOD by the time the flood came.

Everybody else was walking in wickedness, and their imagination too were evil so much so that it got to GOD. No doubt, though, that even Noah didn't show himself righteous, but it's GOD'S Grace that found him. We'll deal with that later.

Genesis 6:1 - Remember this multiplication was GOD'S instruction to Adam before sin entered. So Genesis 6:1 is not talking about a time after the generations of Genesis 5. In Genesis 6, we're now going back in history, and it's summarising what happened. It says, "When men begun to multiply." Remember people begun to multiply a lot sooner than Noah. We covered before how the population was not small and covered where Cain must have gotten his wife from. This is to validate that men began to multiply even before Cain killed his brother and was cursed, and he left to go dwell in another place.

We'll leave it at that and continue later on Thursday.

GOD cares more about truth than persuading people to like HIM. But people think differently.

1 Timothy 2:4 ~

GOD calls people out of their error. HIS wish is that all come to truth.

Godly ministry stands with the truth, calling people to come to a knowledge of it. But ungodly ministry suppresses truth to go stand with people in wrong doctrine.

If you fellowship with people because of people and not because the doctrine is right, who are you trying to persuade?

Persuading man involves convincing people you love them more than truth. This is wrong.

Galatians 1:10 ~

Persuading GOD involves standing for truth even if you can’t persuade your friends and family. This is right.

SPIRITUAL TREATMENT FOR SIN, SELFISHNESS

The mind reacting to human reality without GOD is what su***de is, and that's why it's sinful. In order to protect against this, what the world does without GOD is to deny these truths. Remember the truths from the last study on this,
1. The world says the wages of sin do not lead to death. Wrong.
2. The world says you're important and you're not the problem, but it's your environment, and things are just happening to you. Wrong, because we're a problem, and that's why needed The SAVIOUR, need The Word of GOD, need prayers. We would just refuse to humble ourselves and then start to blame everyone and everything else. Even when it's our fault, we would not wanna accept, and therapy will tell you it's not your fault. It's true people do bad things to other people, and those aren't our fault, but we do wrong too. The Bible teaches this, and we need to have that clarity.
3. When we die, the world will move on, including family(in pain and sorrow, yes). The world, though, teaches us selfishness(me, myself, and I) as if we're here forever.

Now, these doesn’t save someone from troubling thoughts. So, how does humility help? Because we're all gonna face GOD one day. When we die, we immediately face GOD. We can tell what it feels like when people face GOD from the Bible. Like from Isaiah 6, a popular chapter about Isaiah having this vision of heaven.

Isaiah 6:1-5, what's the reaction of Isaiah? Instant humility. That's what humility sounds like. He saw himself not deserving to be there. That's what is gonna happen when we appear before GOD. If we don't learn it, that's a painful day waiting for us. Isaiah was a servant of GOD, spoke GOD'S WORD, but this day he knew more about humility than he had known. What amazing Grace for GOD to allow him to speak GOD'S WORD and see GOD in HIS throne room! That same Grace that even cleansed Isaiah's lips is here today and preaching to us humility as the treatment for selfishness.

RECONCILIATION

James 2:23 - quoting back to 2 Chronicles and Isaiah, point out to Abraham being the friend of GOD back there. Clearly, by the way, this also shows that the people GOD told Abraham to leave behind were not HIS friends.

Exodus 33:11, here we see that Moses too was a friend of GOD.

Remember we're part of the group back there that GOD gave over to reprobate mind, the would be Gentiles back there. The teaching of reconciliation is to renew friendship, and there are people throughout the Bible who GOD made them HIS friends, and that is Israel. It's not a foreign concept, then for people to want to become Israel apparently to get right with GOD. That's why some people wrongly teach that the church is spiritual Israel.

Isaiah 41:8 - Abraham was a friend of GOD, Isaac was a friend of GOD, Jacob was a friend of GOD, and the nation Israel was GOD'S friend. GOD chose them. They're HIS people, and that's why in Matthew 6, GOD taught them to pray, "Our FATHER," not the FATHER of everybody. HE birthed them as a nation, HIS people. In the Bible, many times, GOD is called The GOD of Israel, not Egypt, not Amelekites, etc.

Paul, when he describes reconciliation and the friendship that GOD offers today to the world, he goes way back before Moses, before even Abraham, and back to Adam. All of us are children of Adam, and now we can have friendship with GOD being Our FATHER(through adoption) because THE second and last Adam came. Paul doesn't talk about us and Abraham and Moses with us being part of Israel.

Our father, Adam, sinned and died. We were now without a father, then GOD in HIS mercy and Grace decided to redeem us first by paying the price sin required which is death and then ask us to allow HIM adopt us, through us hearing, believing and trusting in The Gospel, so that we can be reconciled to HIM and be redeemed from the power of sin, death and the devil.

GENESIS 5:1-32

So Enoch was a prophet, walked with GOD after Methusaleh was born. Methusaleh's name was a prophecy. The name means when he's dead, he'll be sent. By the way, none of his family, apart from his grandson, got in the Ark. What does that tell us? Ungodly culture. JESUS said in Luke that as it was in the days before Noah's flood, so shall it be before HE returns. Methusaleh died in the year of the flood. His life was a testimony of GOD'S long suffering and GOD'S judgement too(Noah's flood). When he dies, the patience is over, and the flood comes.

2 Peter 3:9 says the same thing, in regards to GOD'S purpose and HIS promise to return in judgement. Talking about HIS long suffering, not coming back yet. That's the attitude we see back here in Methusaleh, GOD was patient for long. Peter aften reference back here in Noah, JESUS , too, and the disciples together with many that were back there, talking about JESUS' second coming. Lots of events in the past in the Bible are types too of future events. Even the things that happened in the wilderness in Exodus are a picture of the things that will happen in the tribulation.

The flood was GOD'S judgement, a real one on a real world, too, and the same things they were preaching back there is what Jude talks about. With the judgement being of fire this time and not with water.

Lamech knew before it happened that his son would bring comfort. Genesis 5:29. There was a result of the flood that was good(Genesis 8:21), and Lamech, being a prophet of GOD, knew this. The same thing that will happen in the end, there will be nomore sickness, trouble, death, etc, after the judgement.

We'll continue to Genesis 6 on Monday.

SPIRITUAL TREATMENT FOR SIN, SELFISHNESS

People will go to great lengths to deceive themselves against these realities here:
1. Our sins hurt people, eg. Our pride, selfishness(all sin come from this remember), our bad attitude, gossip, our lies, etc. But lie to ourselves that they don't hurt people.
2. The wages of sin is death, but we lie to ourselves that it's not.
3. When we die, the world goes on, so kinda our lives don't really mean anything in relation to people moving on. Even if someone killed themselves because you've died, the truth remains you're gone, and the world moves on. But we lie to ourselves that we are the it and the world revolve around us. Especially when we think we're schooled more, look good more, are exposed more, have more money than our surroundings, etc.

Spiritual treatment guards us from lying to ourselves about these realities, and we chose humility instead.

If you're feeling disconnected from people or the world.
Like you're a burden on other people.
Like your life doesn't matter.
These are the three major risks of su***de. By the way, they're true of us all. As seen above. None is exempt.

How are we connected to this?
How then do we prevent physical su***de if not spiritual su***de? We'd think we need more mental health counselling, but that's not the solution. Haven't you heard of several well-known mental health professionals, counsellors, and psychologists having died by su***de? One committed su***de by jumping from the 17th floor in 2019.

The biggest problem remember is sin, which goes back to selfishness. This puts it right to conclude that even su***de is selfish. Su***de is taking away what GOD gave you because you think life is not as much about you as it should be. Such mentality is what also leads to betrayal and people plotting and planning wickedness on others.

In the Bible, there is a treatment for this. Which is not denying the reality that these truths lead folks to death.

To be continued on Saturday.

Components of Salvation

RECONCILIATION

John 15:18-19 ~ under JESUS' teachings, this was part of the condition for them to enter the kingdom. Sell off all they had, confess JESUS with their mouth, repent, and be water baptized. John 17:14, Jonh 17 bearing the true LORD’S prayer. Verse 14, talking about the apostles because they were taking the role of JESUS so the world is going to hate them. The enmity between the world and GOD is what we're pointing at here.

In Acts 13, we see Paul approaching a religious jew. His first miracle in Acts is blinding a jew while Peter's is healing of a lame man, which is a picture of Israel. Israel, who were GOD'S purpose, then they rebelled against HIM, and Peter teaches they can be redeemed and take their rightful position as HIS people. Romans 11:25 says, "know ye not that Israel is blinded in part in this dispensation."

Acts 13:10, Paul condemns this jew here as being a child of the devil. Interestingly, by doing so, he describes the devil's purpose and role against GOD. He calls the jew the enemy of all righteousness. By rejecting the Gospel of the Grace of GOD, which is rejecting CHRIST JESUS, he's the enemy of all righteousness. Strong language there, that will sound harsh to us, but GOD is true, and every man is a liar. See, The Gospel today and those blinded to it are blinded to the fact that they can't produce in themselves the righteousness that GOD needs to reconcile them. It's only CHRIST that can provide for us the righteousness that we need for salvation.

We can never in any way depend on ourselves and think we can get saved or are saved by our own works of righteousness. Because it is impossible, that's why, in the Bible, there is no single salvation through religion. It's only by CHRIST and HIS atonement that we can get saved. That's the Gospel of The Grace of GOD. Paul condemns the opposition of The Gospel while describing the enmity of the world with GOD.
