You get promoted to manager. Then you're handed the title — and little else.
No handover on how to lead. No guidance on managing former peers. Just a new role, a team waiting for direction, and the unspoken expectation that you'll figure it out.
It's a familiar story in many organisations.
The reality is straightforward: the competencies that earn a promotion — technical skill, reliability, consistent delivery — are not the same competencies required to lead people. Setting direction, delegating effectively, holding honest performance conversations, earning the trust of a team you were recently part of — these require a different skill set entirely, one rarely taught before the title changes.
Left unaddressed, the consequences are predictable: uncertain leadership, unclear expectations, and teams that underperform not for lack of effort, but for lack of direction.
The First-Time Managers Excellence Programme has been designed to address this gap directly.
It is a 2-day executive training, held live in Nairobi, structured around five core modules that take participants from individual contributor to confident people leader. The focus is deliberately practical: tools and templates that can be applied immediately, not abstract theory.
By the end of the programme, participants will be equipped to:
• Set clear direction and manage performance
• Delegate effectively and build accountability
• Hold confident, constructive feedback conversations
• Build strong, high-performing teams
• Manage their own time and priorities as a manager
