Despite the drastic measures taken by the government of Kenya, the graph clearly shows that there is no direct impact on the severity of the disease in the country when compared to the number of deaths in Tanzania. However, the measures in Kenya will result in serious negative effects that will far outlive the pandemic.

Surveys conducted by the United Nations in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone during the 2014–2015 Ebola outbreak in West Africa found a substantial decline in the number of persons seeking healthcare because they feared hospital Ebola transmission. In addition, it was discovered that mandatory curfews, border closures, and disruption of transportation routes made obtaining medical services or continuing drug therapy challenging; this may have led to substantial increase in the number of deaths associated with malaria, HIV/AIDS, and TB. This gives a strong case against stringent measures such as lock-downs that subtly result in more deaths especially in the developing world

Kenya which has over 70% of the population below the age of 35 years and an average of 71% asymptomatic cases of Covid-19 doesn’t need drastic measures such as partial lockdown and curfews, but a reasonable approach that would protect the most vulnerable groups (identified by the Ministry of Health as males above the age of 54 and/or having underlying medical issues) while allowing the rest of the population to develop immunity against this virus or take voluntary measures as the country continues to run. A lockdown may not be sustainable because when the country reopens there is a probability that a 2nd wave of infection can occur warranting unnecessary cycles of lockdowns.
