THE WIVES AUDITION

Character Breakdowns

[ ONYANGO ]

Male (40s – 50s), A University educated polygamous man whose

comfortable life suddenly takes on a chaotic turn when he adds a

teenage girl as his 6th wife. He falls hard for the young damsel and

soon listens to everything she says to the detriment of the farm.

[ NJOKI ]

Female (40s - 50s), she’s the first wife and the voice of reason at the

Onyango Homestead. A strong, level minded woman. A true Matriarch.

A no-nonsense woman married to Onyango for over 30 years. She is

not a pushover and once burned down the farm to make a point.

Onyango respects her and knows the farm has done well over the

years because of her stewardship. They have a daughter together,

Njeri.

[ AKELO ]

Female (Late 30’s-early 40s), She’s the second wife. A gentle and soft

spoken woman who believes in negotiation and peaceful ways of

solving problems.

[ NEKESA ]

Female (Mid 20s – early 30s), she’s the third wife and an incredible

cook whose special dishes are known throughout the land and the

envy of many women. She knows Onyango cannot resist her food and

uses it to her advantage to gain privileges.

[ MUNEE ]

Female (Early 20s – mid 20s), she’s a phenomenal dancer whose

dancing skills have brought many a trophy to the Onyango homestead.

A natural entertainer and happy person, her presence brings cheer

and warmth to the homestead and Onyango every so often requests

for her dance whenever his spirits are low. Blessed with an amazing

body and great behind, she has turned her butt wiggles into an art

form that has elevated the village dance competitions from mere pass

times to serious national events.

[ NYOKABI ]

Female (Early 20’s), she is a tough, raw, young woman with a short

fuse who calls a-spade-a-spade and always ready to fight whenever

she feels provoked. She’s a hard worker and great at her job of milking

Malaika, the Grade Cow. Her milk output accounts to one third of the

homestead’s earnings.

[ AOKO ]

Female (18), still in High School. The latest addition to Onyango’s

string of wives. She is smart beyond her years, beautiful and very

manipulative. She is an obvious plant at the homestead sent there to

cause chaos and bring it down the farm. A perfect pawn recruited by

her Uncle the village witchdoctor.

[ JUMA ]

Male (40+) is a man driven by hatred for Onyango and his success and

will do everything in his power to destroy him. He believes that

Onyango’s farm rightfully belongs to him because his great

grandfather lost the farm to Onyango’s great grandfather on a drunken

bet.

[ NJERI ]

Female (19), a first year student at Kampala University. She comes

back home unexpectedly when the students riot only to find more

chaos at her home.

[ WANJA ] (40s – 50s), is an entrepreneur who owns most stalls at the

village market. She’s best friends with Njoki from childhood.

[ CHIEF ]

Male (50s and above), a solid family man who means well but is forced

to make the decision to remove Otieno from the village eldership.

[ VILLAGE ELDER 1 ]

( 50 and above) is not happy with Onyango for his decision to marry

the teenager, Aoko.

[ VILLAGE ELDER 2 ]

( 50 and above) supports Onyango but is uncomfortable with

Onyango’s teenage dilemma.

[ MBATHI ]

Male (30s – 40s), he owns a fish stall at the fish market. He shelters

and helps Onyango escape from angry mob.

[ RUFFIAN #1, #2 and #3 ]

Males (17 - 19), these hooligans attack Onyango at the fish market.

[ VEGETABLE VENDOR #1 and #2 ]

Males (20s – 30s), these two vendors have a fight with Nyokabi at the

Village market.

[ EXTRAS]:

Males, Females (17 – 50s) Market vendors, Market patrons, High

School students, High School teachers, High School Principal, High

School Coach.
