I was delighted and elated when the I was called out and recognised for excellence in Provision of services across the region including providing professional support to business in matters of governance.

I was reminded of the 5 principles of excellence
1. Unconditional Love
Infinite Love for the work you do. If you don’t love what you do, chances are you will never become excellent at it.

2. Self-Discipline
You may have a talent or more than one, and you may be very gifted, but if you don’t work with your talents, if you don’t play with them, they will eventually go to waste

3. An Excellent State Of Mind
It’s true that before you can HAVE something, you have to first BE that something

4. Patience And Persistence
We need to learn how to give time, time. A lot of people have a hard time with this one, I do too. We want things to happen fast, really fast, and because excellence takes time, in fact, all great things take time, most of us quit

5. Ability to Let Go
Letting go of your need to control everything that will happen to you along the way; letting go of your need to control the outcome and allowing things to just happen are important aspects of achieving excellence in your life.

Always remember, EXCELLENCE IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION!

There are 5 phases to HR metrics and Analysis:
1. Justification - This is the first phase of the process. HR metrics are tracked, and the reporting is limited. At this stage, no steps are being taken and the data are still quite dispersed.

2. Measurement - Results are better defined in this step. Reporting is now in the form of a dashboard or scorecard. Leadership may be held accountable for the results.

3. Effectiveness - At this level, due to the data, HR has more knowledge from the data analysis and actions will take place, and KPI's are related to the results.

4. Value Creation - At this point, rational decisions are made, and genuine insights are produced. Predictive modeling starts with a look at future value creation from investments in HR.nts.

5. Impact - That is where the strategic HR professionals really want the company to be inspired. Progress is created as a result of an analytical mentality at this point, strategic goals are being accomplished, and the culture has changed from performance-based to analytics-driven.

I fully believe that as a leader my job is not just to develop my team, but also to recognise the potential in them, leverage their existing talents, to encourage them to see themselves for who they are and give them the confidence they need to become the people that they can be.

I also think that no matter how much we learn there is still infinitely more that we could learn, but also because when I train someone I want to inspire them to push the boundary of the subject, to learn more than I could ever teach them.
