YESTERDAY’S GMP HIGHLIGHT: THE 5S GAME!

What happens when people experience workplace disorder?

Through the 5S Game, participants saw how poor organisation quietly consumes time, disrupts workflow, and reduces productivity. Then came the transformation: Sort. Set in Order. Shine. Standardise. Sustain.

The result? Faster work, fewer errors, less frustration, and a safer, more efficient workplace.
Because 5S is not simply about keeping a workplace tidy. It is about creating a disciplined operating environment where quality and productivity can thrive.

A place for everything. Everything in its place. Performance by design.

DAY THREE: CONNECTING QUALITY ACROSS THE VALUE CHAIN

Yesterday, tanneries and leather-goods manufacturers came together around one shared reality: quality cannot be achieved in isolation.

From understanding leather specifications and material suitability to strengthening traceability and managing nonconformities, the conversations moved beyond individual enterprises to the connections that determine value-chain performance.

Day Three was about replacing assumptions with dialogue, aligning supplier and customer expectations, and building practical pathways towards stronger market linkages.

Because when every actor understands what the next stage requires, quality improves, waste reduces and the entire leather value chain becomes more competitive.

One value chain. Shared responsibility. Better outcomes.

A MORE COMPETITIVE LEATHER INDUSTRY BEGINS WITH STRONGER ENTERPRISES.

This week, CBiT is leading the technical delivery of a five-day Good Manufacturing Practices workshop under the Leather and Essential Oils Advancement Programme (LEAP) - bringing together tanneries, leather-goods manufacturers and industry stakeholders from across Kenya.

Implemented by TechnoServe in partnership with GIZ, LEAP is addressing the practical constraints that limit enterprise performance across Kenya’s leather value chain.

The programme goes beyond theory. It focuses on the realities of production: strengthening manufacturing systems, improving quality and process control, reducing waste and inefficiencies, enhancing traceability and preparing enterprises to compete in higher-value markets.

At CBiT, this is the work we are committed to: translating technical knowledge into practical systems that help Africa's enterprises become more efficient, competitive and market-ready.

Because Africa’s leather opportunity will not be realised through production alone. It will be unlocked by enterprises with the capabilities, systems and market intelligence to consistently create and capture greater value.

Five days. One shared ambition: stronger enterprises and a more competitive leather industry.

The transformation is underway.

People don’t buy what you do they buy why you do it. - Simon Sinek

Many organizations can explain what they sell. Far fewer can clearly articulate the value they create and the problem they solve. A well-defined purpose brings focus to strategy, guides innovation, strengthens organisational culture, and helps businesses build authentic connections with the markets they serve.
