Every safari experience has changed the way I see our environment.

Over the years, I have revisited some of the same parks and conservation areas, and the difference is impossible to ignore. Vegetation that was once lush is slowly drying up. Water sources are becoming less reliable. Animals that used to be easy to spot are now fewer, with populations visibly dwindling.

Seeing this firsthand makes the climate conversation deeply personal. Conservation is no longer just an abstract idea or a policy discussion. It is about protecting ecosystems, wildlife, livelihoods, and the future we all share.

This World Environment Day, let us reflect on this year’s theme:
**“Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”**

Nature continues to give us so much. Clean air, biodiversity, beauty, tourism, food systems, and resilience. The least we can do is protect it through responsible living, sustainable practices, restoration efforts, and collective action.

The future of our environment depends on what we choose to do today. Let us conserve it before the loss becomes irreversible. 🌍🌱🐘

Happy Madaraka Day, Kenya.

63 years of self-rule. And yet the work of true freedom, freedom from poverty, from exclusion, from under-resourced communities, continues.

This year's theme, 'Education, Skills and the Future', resonates deeply with me. Eighteen years in resource mobilisation has taught me that funding follows capacity. When we invest in people's ability to tell their story, build their systems, and access the right rooms, we unlock something far greater than a grant.

Today I'm reflecting on what it means to build, not just for now, but for the Kenya our children will inherit.

The biggest headache in consortium proposal budgeting? The "Cutting" Phase. 💊

We all want ambitious projects. But when you ask partners to submit their budgets freely before seeing a total, you often end up with an amazing scope of work... and a budget 40% over the cap.

Then comes the awkward, painful, and time-consuming negotiation of cutting line items.

But is the alternative any better?

If you dictate strict budget limits to each partner upfront, do you risk stifling their proposed activities? Do you get better proposals, or just proposals that fit a box?

I'm trying to refine our consortium's budget preparation process.

My question to the network:
What is your golden rule for budget preparation in a consortium?

Free-for-all then cut? (Allows for vision, but leads to heartache).

Capped from the start? (Saves time, but might limit scope).
