STEP TO DEVELOPING A GOOD RESEARCH TOPIC IN YOUR AREA OF SPECIALIZATION

1. Identification of ideas – In this step, the research identify ideas;

- What are the critical or key themes or role/purpose?

- What significant arguments are proposed or presented?

- What specific key concepts to focus on?

- In what context will the research be positioned?

- What methodologies are utilized?

2. Make Relationships/Connections

-What theories/ theoretical framework other scholar (s) used

-What are the links/ relationships between theories and examples of argument presented?

- What is the relative/ compared emphasis of ideas presented?

-What is the justification/evidence used to provide supportive points?

-What are the tenets/ assumptions offered / provided/made?

-How are ideas linked to the wide body of knowledge?

3. Assess from different focus/ perspectives –statement of the problem

-What is the existing argument?

-What other interpretations exists

-What different approaches or conceptual views/ frameworks exists

4. Challenges – Provision of strengths/ weakness

- How appropriate is the research design

-How reliable is the justification

-Validity of the assumptions or tenets

-How balanced is argument- Consider both side of the discussion

-What is the importance of the source- Contribution of the study?

5. Develop a substantiated point/ position- Research Topic

-Formulate the informed topic as – “Your researcher point of view”
