1. Never target peak seasons. Peak seasons come with their own set of challenges. Be a wise farmer not a gambler.
2. Choose at least two main crops and a crop rotation plan. Switching from one crop to another without a plan is counter~productive.
3. Plan your farming schedule to have your crops growing at different stages. This will ensure constant supply for your market.
4. There's no crop that is not profitable. Simply master the pros and cons of the particular crop you want to grow.
5. Having a lot of money is not a guarantee for successful farming. Don't venture into farming blindly just because you have a lot of cash.
6. Have a spray and fertilizer plan and stick to it.
7. Never take advice from agrovets and agrochemical sales agents. Most of them are only out to sell their merchandise and make money. They are not agronomists.
8.Try as much as possible to cut down on unnecessary expenditure at your farm without compromising on the quality of your produce.
9. Never hold back on a produce especially if its a perishable product. Sell it at the prevailing prices to avoid losses.
10. Never plant a new seed on large scale before carrying out trials. Unless you have seen it somewhere else, don't try.
11. Never entrust your million dollar idea to a farmhand. Ensure you are always present during all critical stages of crop development and sales.
12. Never employ a close relative to manage your farm unless you are sure about their productivity. Most of them will fail you.
13. If you are neighbouring other farmers, plant same crop as them.
14. Never apply any farming information you get online, without consulting your agronomist.
15. Always have a farm plan.
16. Old is Gold. Most of the old seed varieties and chemicals will never disappoint you.
17. Farm with passion. A positive attitude will take you far.
Be a smart farmer!
