It is Potato Congress Inc. month!
We’re proud to be part of the hosting team bringing this global conversation to our doorstep later this month. Potatoes connect farmers, technology, markets, food security and livelihoods across the value chain. As a company working across that chain, we’re getting ready to showcase the people, ideas and opportunities shaping the future of potatoes in Africa.

Our team, led by our head of extension, Joseph Ndirangu recently hosted a practical learning session with the local 4K Club, introducing young farmers to the importance of topdressing in potato production. Through hands-on demonstrations, the learners explored the right timing, application methods and benefits of applying fertilizer during crop growth. The session connected classroom knowledge with real farm practice, empowering the next generation with practical skills for healthier crops, better yields and more informed farming decisions.

From the shamba to the world stage, and back to the classroom.

As we gear up to host the , we’re proud to put Kenya’s potato story on the global map. But championing agriculture isn’t only about growing better crops today; it’s about growing the next generation of farmers, innovators, and agricultural leaders.

Through the 4K Clubs we’re getting children closer to the soil, teaching them where food comes from, and showing them that agriculture is not just a livelihood, it’s an opportunity to shape the future.

Because the future of agriculture won’t grow itself. We have to plant the idea early. 🌱

From 4 acres of idle land to hosting country partners for the World Potato Congress 2026, this journey has always felt personal to us. 🌱🥔

When our founder, Chris Gasperi, first started farming in Kenya, he saw a gap that broke his heart: less than 5% of national demand for certified seed potatoes was being met. Farmers were replanting degraded seed year after year, watching yields and hope shrink. He knew there had to be a better way. That's how FreshCrop was born.

What started as one man's response to a local problem has grown into something we're incredibly proud of: a model now supporting 15,000+ smallholder farmers across Kenya's potato zones.

✅ Certified, disease-free seed production
✅ Hands-on agronomy support & training
✅ Local processing via FreshChips Processors, with real buyback contracts
✅ Farmers finally getting the market access they deserve

This October, Kenya hosts the 13th World Potato Congress in Naivasha, the first time it's ever come to East Africa. For us, it's more than an event. It's a full-circle moment, and we can't wait to share it with the world.

The FreshCrop team is on-site at the KALRO Marindas Potato Seed Production Unit launch today. Ahead of the World Potato Congress 2026 in Kenya, we continue working with partners to address the critical shortage of high-quality certified potato seed. Reliable seed access directly supports our farmers, strengthens harvests, and secures national food supply. We look forward to highlighting Kenya's agricultural leadership on the global stage at WPC 2026. Please visit our website for more information:https://wpc2026kenya.com/

At FreshCrop, we proudly champion youth in agriculture and embrace every opportunity to inspire young people to explore the many possibilities within the sector.

Last week, our Head of Extension, Joseph Ndirangu, traded the farm for the stage, sharing his firsthand experience with young people exploring agriculture as a career and employment opportunity.

As part of the conversation, Joseph spoke about the potato value chain, the opportunities it offers young people, and the work FreshCrop is doing to help farmers and aspiring agripreneurs get more out of agriculture.

Because agriculture is more than growing crops, it is about growing opportunities, livelihoods and the next generation of agricultural leaders.
