Combining trees with potato farming is a smart, sustainable approach gaining traction in many farms across the world. Agroforestry improves soil health, reduces erosion, and regulates moisture, creating better conditions for potato crops. Trees fix nutrients and provide shade that moderates soil temperature. The result is healthier land and more consistent yields season after season. Looking to get started? We sell quality tree seedlings. Reach out today

As May closes, your potatoes are transitioning from flowering toward the final bulking phase. Flowers will begin to fall, that's natural and good. It means the plant is now channeling all its energy into your tubers. Reduce nitrogen, maintain potassium, keep blight at bay. The hardest work is nearly done. June harvest is on the horizon. You planted with faith, now finish with focus.

FreshCrop Limited is proud to be part of the growing momentum behind the 2026 World Potato Congress (WPC), following the strong endorsement and support of Office of Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Agriculture & Livestock Development Hon. Sen. Mutahi Kagwe.

During a briefing held at Kilimo House on 20th May 2026, the CS emphasized the importance of positioning Kenya’s potato value chain as a business-driven sector powered by innovation, investment, and private sector leadership. His call for lasting impact through knowledge exchange, partnerships, market access, and farmer-centered growth aligns closely with FreshCrop’s vision for the future of the potato industry in Kenya.

As the co-host with National Potato Council of Kenya FreshCrop remains committed to supporting a Congress that will not only place Kenya firmly on the global potato map, but also create tangible opportunities for farmers, agribusinesses, researchers, and value chain actors across the country.

Scheduled for 26th–30th October 2026 at Sawela Lodges and Convention Centre in Naivasha, WPC 2026 will be the first World Potato Congress hosted in Sub-Saharan Africa. The event is expected to bring together over 1,000 international delegates from more than 60 countries, alongside over 1,500 local potato farmers during the Congress Field Day.

FreshCrop is honored to contribute to this historic moment for Kenya’s agricultural sector and the future of potato farming across Africa.

Quick agronomy check for this week: ✅ Are your flower buds uniform across the field? ✅ Is the canopy a healthy medium-green (not pale, not too dark)? ✅ Are your drainage channels open? ✅ Have you sprayed fungicide in the last 10 days? ✅ Have you foliar-fed in the last 14 days? If you answered YES to all five, your potato crop is on track for a great harvest.
Keep it up! 💯

On May 20th, World Bee Day reminds us of the work bees do across our farms. Nearly 75% of crops depend on pollinators, and here in Kenya, bees steadily improve yields in crops.

Yet their presence is under threat from habitat loss, pesticide misuse, and a changing climate. What’s often overlooked is how small, practical choices on the farm make a difference: spraying at the right time, avoiding open flowers, and keeping simple flowering borders can sustain bee populations without compromising productivity.

Bees are not a side note in farming. They are part of the system itself, carrying the season forward, one field to the next. Protect them, and the harvest follows.
