*HOSPITALITY JOB FRUSTRATIONS*

I feel compelled to speak out on this matter to assist fellow hoteliers and help prevent career mistakes—especially for those currently in good positions.

I've observed a worrying trend: many of the emerging hotels and resorts today are family-owned—and unfortunately, they form the majority in some regions. They just don't care about Hospitality Professionalism and Ethics. They want to do things their family way.

Here’s what’s happening:

- They sweet-talk General Managers and staff to join their establishments through enticing adverts.

- Consultants are brought in without contracts, expected to do all the donkey work of setting up systems—but sadly, they are never paid.
- They try to poach very Good Hoteliers from well established Hotels and Resorts only to throw them in the stress unemployed.

- As for GMs and hoteliers, you’re brought on board by owners who have no hospitality expertise, and if you try to show them the right way, you are dismissed verbally, without notice or procedure.

As a result, many Hotel Managers and Hoteliers are silently going through immense stress and depression due to these unprofessional working conditions coming up from these new hospitality employers..

Here’s my honest Human Resources advice:

- Never accept any employment offer from a hotel, resort, or restaurant without a signed and clear employment contract. Ensure you are familiar with Employment Contracts. Get advice from people like us who understands what entails a good job contract.

- Conduct thorough employer background checks before you leave that good job that has helped build your career. Do not resign your employment till you are 100 💯 sure you are going to the right place career wise.

- Let’s continue supporting each other through this Hospitality Managerial Network Workshops, Meetings—they have helped many Hoteliers to avoid making unnecessary career mistakes.

- Learn how to navigate these hotel directors carefully, or else you risk frustration, stress, and depression. They don't care what happens to you healthwise. This is your life, don't be stressed by a Hotel Director just because he or she owns a hotel. We must try to see how this will work out..
- Efforts to reach out to Hotel Directors has been unsuccessful as they don't have a fully formed Hotel Owners Association like Uganda Hotel Directors.
- We wholeheartedly thank the Family Hotel Directors and Owners who have been Professional and Ethical in dealing with General Managers and Hotel Staff in Making their Hotel Succeed..
