Superior quality fodder/ forage must have high density of all the following nutritional values:-
* Energy {ME - (9.5 - 12) MJ / kg DM}.
* Protein { CP - (8% - 24%)}
* Digestible Fibre{ DDM ( over 60%)}
* Dry matter content { wet (30 -40%; dry (85 -90%)} and
* All the above nutrients must be at low cost on dry matter basis.
*maize silage done post milky stage,grain cracked by a good quality chopper qualify as the best.

Let's compare maize silage and nappier silage on the above metrics from analysed data.
We assume nappier was chopped and ensiled post the milky stage and nappier after 6 -9 months with growth height of 3 to 4 metres.
ME: 4-5 MJ/ Kg DM
CP: 4%
DDM: 30%
DM:15%

The four aspects can be improved by adding
Molasses and maize germ @ 3-5 kgs per 100 kg of feed.
1kg urea per 100 kg of feed.

PAKCHONG/JUNCAO ESTABLISHMENT

· Dig holes of length x width x depth= 2ft x 2ft x2ft .Spacing from hole to hole is 3ft from line to line 3 ft.

· Separate the top 1 feet soil with bottom 1 feet soil.

· mix the top soil with two (20- litre bucket full )of well rotten manure- 10 tonnes per acre rate.

· Discard the bottom soil/spread around and cover with mulch.

· Fill back to top soil manure + mixture to the holes.

· plant the cutting with 2 buds at an angle of 15-30 degrees, ensure both buds are in touch with the soil and a small part remain no top of soil..

· First cut after 4-5 months at height of 1.5m to 2m.

· After every harvest top dress with 2 (20litre-bucket) full of manure.

· Harvest at height of 1.5m to 2m...

Intercrop your pakchong nappier and juncao nappier with a little desmodium for your soil nitrogen and a little more crude protein in your feed.
It's also a good mulch to cover your soil.
