Good Afternoon to you all.
As promised today I will talk about "MIYCN" which stands for Mother, Infant and Young Child Nutrition.
Some of the key components include:
A) Immediate contact of the baby to the mother within that first hour after delivery provides warmth and promotes bonding.
B) Ensuring proper attachment of the baby to the breast to avoid hurting your ni***es.
- Allow your baby to suck and empty one breast first and come off the breast on his or her own. This will ensure that your baby gets the most nutritious and satisfying milk then give your baby the other breast.
C) During the first 6 months, give the baby breast milk ONLY.
- Not even water
D) Breastfeed on demand both day and night
- If you are a working mum, express the milk and store safely in very hygienic conditions to avoid any kind of infections.
E) The mother is encouraged to eat balanced diet all the time to ensure the baby also gets nutritious contents.
- Foods rich in Iron, Calcium and generally all nutrients are encouraged because the mother loses blood during delivery. So ensure that proper nutrition on your side is vital for the normal growth and development of the baby.
F) Ensure the baby is taken to the health centre for weight and height growth monitoring, supplementation immunizations and deworming.
- Continuously upto 5 years of age.
G) Begin complementary feeding at 6 months of age.
-Here hygiene is also of great essence to prevent infections and diseases.
I believe this will help someone who is a first time mother or anyone who might have had questions.
Great week ahead.
Good evening.
