Employment contracts are the foundation of every employment relationship, but are your contracts fully compliant with the Employment Act and recent court decisions? Many employers lose employment disputes due to procedural lapses, poor documentation, and non-compliance with statutory requirements rather than the absence of valid reasons for employee separation. As employment laws continue to evolve, organizations must strengthen their capacity to effectively manage employment contracts and employee separations.
The absence of a written contract does not negate the existence of an employment relationship. We invite you to attend our training where more of such nuggets will be shared.Kindly confirm your participation by registering through the following link https://shorturl.at/H6Mz3

AEA CEO Attends the 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland

The Chief Executive Officer of the Agricultural Employers Association (AEA), Mr. Wesley Siele, attended the 114th International Labour Conference (ILC) held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 1st to 12th June 2026. The conference took place at the International Labour Organization (ILO) Headquarters, the Palais des Nations, and the International Conference Centre Geneva (CICG).

The conference brought together tripartite delegations from 187 member states, comprising representatives from governments, employers, and workers. The annual gathering serves as the world's premier forum for discussing labour and employment issues and shaping international labour standards.

One of the key agenda items was the discussion on decent work in the platform economy. Delegates continued negotiations on a possible new international labour standard aimed at protecting workers in the gig and platform economy. The discussions emphasized the importance of ensuring fair working conditions, social protection, and inclusion of informal workers in emerging labour frameworks.

Another major theme was Artificial Intelligence and the future of work. The ILO Director-General's report, titled “A Moment of Choice: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Decent Work,” highlighted the opportunities and challenges presented by AI. Delegates stressed the need to ensure that technological advancements promote inclusive growth, protect worker dignity, and create sustainable employment opportunities.

The conference also focused on strengthening social dialogue and tripartism. Participants emphasized the importance of collaboration among governments, employers, and workers in addressing labour market challenges brought about by digitalization, demographic changes, and evolving work arrangements. Speakers noted that lasting and effective labour solutions are achieved when all social partners work together.

Gender equality in the world of work was another important topic. Delegates explored strategies for advancing gender equality and promoting inclusive workplaces, with particular attention given to women in informal employment and the barriers they continue to face.

Additional discussions covered the application of international labour standards, programme and budget matters, and the review of existing labour conventions. Country delegations also shared experiences and best practices in social protection, labour mobility, skills development, and lifelong learning.

The conference underscored the interconnectedness of key labour issues, including platform work, artificial intelligence, gender equality, and social dialogue. The participation of AEA in this global forum provided an opportunity to engage with international stakeholders, exchange knowledge, and contribute to discussions shaping the future of work worldwide.
