Kwale Plastics Plus Collectors

Kwale Plastics Plus Collectors Kwale Plastics Plus Collectors is a new initiative to clean up our land, rivers, beaches and ocean. This effort aims to upgrade waste management.

Our richly blessed Kwale County is drowning in rubbish—and crying out for our active stewardship. We are choosing to respond by engaging with fellow Kenyans & residents to sustainably remove the plastic & other waste littering our residential areas, land, roadsides, drainage systems, rivers, beaches and ocean. Rubbish is degrading public health and our environment. Over-flowing landfills also rob

people of productive land. Rubbish is spoiling our human, animal, natural resource and blue economies! Curbing this menace in a sustainable manner is a massive challenge requiring Devoted Passion, an Intelligent Strategy and bountiful determination! We firmly commit to creating a ‘closed loop’ solution—and inspiring others to get involved too! Diani Plastics-Plus will set-up Green Station collection points & the Green Station Depot. The Green Station collection points will initially span from Tiwi to Shimoni. Each Green Station will have 4 large bins, each painted a different colour, branded and labeled: PLASTIC, GLASS, PAPER, METAL. Green Team Operators will be at each Green Station and ensure collected waste is regularly taken to the Depot.

Very unfortunately, the Flipflopi arrival event has been cancelled in Diani.

We have had to make this decision due to extensive delays and exit formalities in Tanzania. We lost a full day of travel while waiting in Pangani and still have further paperwork to complete in Tanga! Guess this is a bit of a first too. We came via a lake and leave via an ocean! :)

Currently, we can't predict what day let alone the time we will be arriving in Diani...

We are truly sorry as we were so excited for such a warm welcome in Diani but it really is out of our hands.

Like everything else on this 6-week expedition we have come to expect the unexpected!

Over the weekend the Flipflopi Kisumu innovation hub was launched. This is the third in our network of across Kenya, joining Kwale Plastics Plus Collectors in Diani and Takataka Foundation in Lamu.

We had been waiting for machinery from Plastiki Rafiki to arrive so that we could launch a new plastic recycling hub in Kisumu!

Over the last few weeks with Naam Festival - Lake Victoria have been working to raise awareness of the value of plastics. And now the hub is operational the community can see the many things that can be created from collected plastics.

In partnership with Flipflopi Kisumu, the community can now be given the skills they need to continue recycling and creating beautiful new things from recycled plastics.

Today marks a very important day to us and our - Waste Pickers Day.

Millions of people make a living collecting, sorting, recycling and selling what others have discarded. And our work would be nothing without these hardworking individuals that tirelessly sort through our collections.

While waste picking benefits households, communities and the environment, these workers are often neglected and not thought of that well in the wider world.

But not with us.

We know we couldn’t do anything without our pickers and sorters. So today we’re celebrating the - often - thankless task that they do each and every day while serving themselves, their families and their communities.

Our team of pickers and sorters are on the ground every day making a difference to their immediate environment while also raising awareness in their communities to the problems of poor waste management.

To this, we salute and thank all waste pickers across the world!

Taka Taka Revolution♻️
