In November 2021, I decided to take a step forward with McKinsey & Company's Forward Program. Today, I am proud that the rich learning experience has transformed my mindset, and made a difference in my life. I have noticed improvements in my ability to be aware of my environment, adjust easily, react better, and perform resiliently in all situations. This is because I have adopted adaptable mindsets, acquired enhanced problem-solving skills, and have become a better communicator.

Will you take a step forward?

Sunday Thoughts: By Mohamed Hirsi.

Power of social media and what are the lessons.

Three days ago after dinner I came across a clip of a nice garden bench that also doubles up as a table with seating area for 4 and it looked cool. The young carpenter was showing off how it works in a simple video taken using a mobile phone.. On closer scrutiny I noticed they are Kenyans. I always choose to look for what is positive about our country and generally Africa and I decided to post the same on my social media handles.

Moment I did that everyone was asking for the contacts , well my friend did not have the contact either and I opted to try at Kisumu Tourism WhatsApp group again another power of social media. My former school mate Onyango Midika quickly gave me the name and mobile number.

I am here on sunday morning to share the impact of that simple post.

Here are the facts and I will ask PR Guru Stella Kiguta Nganga to explain the meaning of these numbers.

1. Over 2.2 Millions views on Twitter. 50,000 likes and over in under 72 Hours.

2. On FB over 250,000 views, 3600+ shares 850+ comments

3. Finally he has 800+ orders worth almost 20 Million.

4. Then lastly I got 3 contacts from S.A. who want to be his agents and one in Addis and one in Dar.

5. Then Sara Reeves my new found friend is helping the young man to protect his work in Kenya as much as it has been made elsewhere in the world.

6. My colleagues at Kepsa are also wowed and several of them have come forward to help since young man lacks the capacity.

What lessons can we draw from this ?

1. Folks we are in very hard times both from health angle and financially due to Covid but Kenyans are still willing and are wowed by anything unique . They are yearning for something fresh.

2. Kenyans also love their own irrespective of tribe , race etc.

3. Despite hard times you still find a market for something unique.

Now Kenya is one nation that has myriad of parastatals where travel is their second name , why is it that no one has seen the need to bring us and share unique products made in Kenya by Kenyans ? We have Brand Kenya , Kenya is more than just tea & coffee . Over the years what has ministry of trade and industry been doing? We now see some action through CS Betty Maina which is a good thing . She is pushing the made in Kenya brand in a genuine way.

Why should we import some lousy and quality suspect furniture from China and many other places when Ngong Road guys without any support are able to fix such unique strong pieces.

Finally we allocated Ksh 10B to Kazi Mtaani but less than Ksh760M to SME where Stephen and his colleagues are found. Do our policy makers really know the power of SME's ?

Ksh 10B is alot pf money that is $100M enough to set 5 regional banks for the youth and SMEs to borrow from or even easier why not give that fund to well run bank like KCB that has good GOK share holding and ask them to target these SMEs and give loans at even 3% or 4%. If Yunus could do that with virtual illiterate women in Bangladesh with Grameen bank why cant we do it here in Kenya with our smart young men amd women.

Folks it is said give a man a fish and you feed him for a day , teach him how to fish and you feed for life.

All i did was to tell the world about some good fisherman along Ngong road rest as they say is history.

I hope this piece lifts your spirits on this Sunday morning . Support is not always about money and you never know where help will come from.

I would like to hear from you .... what are your thoughts as you relax at home.

I wish Stephen Odhiambo Aka Fundi all the very best and one day I hope to meet him and also buy myself one garden bench.

As always yours truly is choosing to remain an optimist.

You business model has to be based on a strategic and dynamic business model. Your business model transformation should be informed by:

1. Corporate analysis - What are you offering and what is your unique selling point [USP]? (PESTLE-SWOT analysis will come in very handy)

2. Consumer analysis - What is your value proposition to clients and what do your consumers expect? (Business process optimisation will come in handy)

3. Competitor analysis - What is your competitive advantage and disadvantage? (Michael Porter's 5 Forces and the VRIO analysis will come in handy)

As you transition into 2020, re-examine the 3 components of the strategic triangle and keep your business booming.

THE WHITE LABEL STRATEGY
This strategy is related to outsourcing and private labeling.

Generally, the white label strategy is used where you enter into non-exclusive agreements with other companies to buy your unlabeled product/service, put their own branding on it, and sell/distribute it to consumers/users as if it was their own product. (Hence, several companies can brand the same product/service (your product/service) as their own). E.g., Foxconn Technology Group manufactures phones that are then branded as Nokia (by Nokia Corporation); iPhone (by Apple Inc.), etc

In private labeling, you customise your product/service for an exclusive client. (You put a particular company's brand on your product).

In outsourcing, you offer your services / product to the client rather than the end user. When offered to the user, you may co-brand with your client (Insert both your brand and that of your client on the same product/service).

At Knights Emergency Medical Services - EMS Consultancy, we have been using the white label strategy since 2018. Hence, emergency care training service providers and other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies buy and sell our unlabeled training products and services under their own brands. We are always happy to tap into their distribution channels/networks to boost our business development as they benefit from our wealth of experience, quality standards, & advice among other mutual benefits.

Let's keep doing this in 2020!
