[The 3rd LMI LEAD Scientific Days 2026 was successfully held at the National University of Battambang from 28-29 May 2026] - Part 1!

The International Joint Laboratory of Excellence in Co-Engineering for Sustainable Agrosystems (LMI LEAD) organized its 3rd Scientific Days 2026 as a hybrid event on 28-29 May 2026 at the BANAN meeting room of the National University of Battambang (NUBB), Battambang Province, Cambodia, and online.

The event started with the welcoming remarks from H. E. Prof. Dr. PAO Srean, Vice Rector of NUBB as a host institution, followed by the opening remarks from Mr. LE Calvez Luc, Country representative of Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), the primary funder of the LMI LEAD initiative. Then, the project overviews, the achievements within 2025, and the way forward were presented by Dr. Lionel Moulin (IRD) and Dr. Malyna Suong (ITC) as the northern and southern leaders of the project, respectively.

The event brought together approximately 80 researchers, students, and institutional partners from eight institutions across Cambodia and France, both onsite and online, from 10 institutions, including: ITC, NUBB, RUA, GDA (MAFF), IRD, CIRAD, Université Clermont-Ferrand, Université de Montpellier, CNRS, and IRRI Cambodia. A total of 25 presentations over the two-day event covered the food system diversification, rice system decarbonization, knowledge co-production with farming communities, and One Health approaches, and the participatory approaches as a serious game.
After general discussions on the morning of day two, a sum up on the two-day event with the introduction of the way forward, followed by the handover ceremony of the Certificate of Appreciation to all speakers, and then ended by a closing remark from NUBB.

On behalf of the LMI LEAD management team, we would like to heartfully thank and express our appreciation to the funding support from IRD, to the organizing team, especially NUBB as a hosting institution, to all speakers, animators, facilitators, and participants for making this event happen and engaging with us.

See you all at the 4th LMI LEAD Scientific Day 2027, which will be rotated to the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC)! (To be continued!)

{Participation of the LMI LEAD Cambodia in the One Health Satellite Event 2026 in Cambodia} Part 1

Some of the Scientific committee and partners of the LMI LEAD have been actively participating in the One Health Satellite Event 2026 in Cambodia, held on 01–02 April 2026 in Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra, which brings together national authorities across three ministries (MoH, MoE, and MAFF) and international partners to share knowledge and discuss the challenges toward the ONE HEALTH approaches in Cambodia. This high-level event highlights the importance of a coordinated, multi-sectoral approach to address health challenges at the human–animal–environment interface.

Aligned with the vision and mission of the LMI LEAD project, our engagement in this event reaffirms our commitment to advancing interdisciplinary research, strengthening scientific collaboration, and supporting evidence-based decision-making in Cambodia and beyond.
We remain dedicated to fostering innovation, capacity building, and partnerships that contribute to national and global One Health priorities.

Thanks for the project's main financial support from IRD, for the active implementors and complimentary support from ITC, RUA, and NUBB, CIRAD, GCA, and all partners.
Together for greater impacts for Cambodia and beyond! (To be continued!)

[Capacity Building at LMI LEAD Cambodia]

The LMI LEAD Cambodia and the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) welcomed Alexis Dereeper and Juliette Hayer from IRD Montpellier for a two-day hands-on training on research data management, held on 30–31 March 2026 at ITC, Phnom Penh.
Over two days, participants dove into Grist and KoboToolbox, the two powerful open tools that help research teams manage field sampling data, laboratory records, and sequencing metadata all in one place. From GPS-tagged sample collection in the field to submitting sequence data to international databases like the European Nucleotide Archive (ENA), the training covered the full data lifecycle. Participants also got hands-on with building their own dashboards, maps, and data visualizations.
It was a wonderful opportunity for knowledge sharing, and we were truly impressed by the engagement and curiosity of all participants throughout the two days.
A heartfelt thank you to Alexis and Juliette for sharing their expertise so generously. This kind of training is exactly what LMI LEAD is all about: building local research capacity and fostering long-term scientific collaboration between Cambodia and France.
The LMI LEAD is a joint international laboratory financially supported by IRD (Institut de Recherche pour le Développement).

{Webinar Series 2026 of the LMI LEAD project }

On the 18th of February 2026, the LMI LEAD successfully organized the webinar on “Building Natural Fiber Value Chains in Cambodia”, featuring Juliette Clapson, textile and material designer and co-founder of Terres à Terre.
The event was conducted in a hybrid format in I-106, Institute of Technology of Cambodia (on-site), and online.

She presented key findings from her assessment of Cambodia’s potential to develop natural fiber industries based on jute, kenaf, sunn h**p, and rice straw. The session highlighted how agricultural residues and cover crops can support soil regeneration, rural livelihoods, and the transition toward biodegradable, low-carbon materials.

Thank you to all participants for the insightful discussion and engagement.
