During the 7th Ministerial Meeting on Economy, the Korean government announced that it will provide support to the local governments within the Republic to boost their economies. Some of the immediate measures planned to be implemented to support the economy and local businesses are as below.
Reserve 136.7 billion won for local governments to support coronavirus prevention and control
Emergency financial aid of 50 trillion won ($39bn) to small businesses and medium-sized companies to prevent them from going bankrupt
Financial support of up to 12 trillion won ($9.3bn) for small businesses to enable them to borrow money at 1.5% interest rate from all financial institutions.
A special loan guarantee programme worth 5.5 trillion won ($4.3bn) to enable small companies and micro businesses to refinance loan principal and postpone interest payment.
Support procurement of masks and COVID-19 test kits through private contracts
Close cafeterias operated by the government twice a week in order to support restaurant businesses
The government is expected to announce further measures given the increasing disease spread and impact.
South Korea’s central bank, Bank of Korea, has accepted 5.25tn won ($4.23bn) in bids from financial institutions in an auction for repurchase (repo) agreements at a rate of 0.78%. The auction is one of several that the bank plans to hold until June as a short-term borrowing tool.

Oh Sinan Ozturk, who was born in Turkey, first came to Korea in 1997 as a student on a scholarship from a Turkish automatic company and transferred to Seoul National University's Department of Industrial Engineering.
Instead of returning to his home country after finishing his studies, he decided to stay in Korea, and established Kervan Group here. The group now operates 16 restaurants presenting Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine, with its head shop located in Itaewon, a multicultural district in Seoul.

After living in Korea for more than 20 years and doing business for about a decade, he realized there are not many chances for foreign entrepreneurs to interact with Koreans.

This revelation led him to set up the Global Business Alliance (GBA), which offers opportunities for foreign entrepreneurs from over 60 countries around the world, along with diplomats and trade counselors, to share their knowledge and experience with Koreans, and do business together.

During an interview with The Korea Times, the founder and CEO of Kervan Group said the number of foreigners seeking to realize their "Korean dream" is estimated at 2.5 million, with this number expected to continue increasing, stressing that their talents and skills will contribute to making Korea a better country.

South Korea towards a multicultural nation!

In November 2020, GBA organized a cultural event in South Korea. Representatives from 18 countries were invited to visit a ‘Farm Tour for Local Industry Growth through the Gyeongbuk-type Industrial Tourism Promotion’. Hosted by the Gyeongsangbuk-do province Culture & Tourism Organization.
The GBA Cultural Day served as a bridge with other nations but most importantly it also served as a bridge between Korean culture and Korea itself.
