South Korea's No. 1 Automatic Fabric-Folder Equipment, The Only Manufacturer
Why does Korea use machines that have been used in foreign countries for more than 20 years?
Why do foreign laundry machine companies hold dominant position in Korean laundry machine industry?
Why can't the domestic laundry industry develop?
This is Gyeongseong Laundry Machinery Corporation, the first Korean manufacturer of laundry equipment and the history of washing machine industry.
Started working at a laundry equipment manufacturer at the recommendation of an acquaintance, and now manufacturing a laundry machine system alone.
There are many kinds of industrial laundry equipment used in washing factories.
Korean laundry industry has been domestically manufacturing various equipment such as industrial washing machines and dryers, however there was no corporation that manufactures automatic fabric-folding machines.
There is a company that is producing the only automatic fabric-folder machine in Korea with the technique and know-how from the work experience at “Gyeongseong Laundry Machinery Corporation”.
Seok-ho Lee, the CEO of the company, never gave up walking on the road that no one has taken and always did his best and finally succeeded in producing KSF-13, an automatic fabric-folder, with domestic technology.
This is the one and only producer of automatic fabric-folder machine, Seok-ho Lee.
On March 25, we met Seok-ho Lee, the CEO of Gyeongseong Folders Company, at the headquarters in Yong-in of kerea.
Q. Why did you start thinking about producing KSF-13 (folder) in Korea?
A. There were many companies and people who made other products such as washing machines and dryers at the time, but there was no company trying to produce automatic fabric-folder machine. I decided to produce it because I thought doing something that others don't do is valuable.
Q. What are some advantages of KSF-13 (folder)?
A. Each folder machine of Europe, Japan, China and so on is the same machine, but its pros and cons were clear. One kind of folder machine was vulnerable folding the thick material of linen to add to its sophistication, and another was not wide enough to digest various sizes of linen.
As we continued to modify these weak points, the KSF-13 was able to be developed into equipment suitable for domestic use.
Although there were some errors and difficulties in the early days, the current version can afford any kind of linen, such as linen used in a hospital, a hotel, etc.
Q. What is the current sales status?
A. Sales are currently low, due to foreign-made secondhand machines and cost-effective Chinese machinery.
The reality is that it costs more compared to the mass production. In case of profuse orders, cost reduction and prompt delivery are possible. It is also a situation in which people in the same industry are not welcoming us. Considering the retail margins, selling equipment from other countries has a better profit structure, and therefore, it is more important for the enterprisers of the peer companies to sell foreign-made machines rather than promoting domestic machines.
Q. What is the future sales strategy for KSF-13 (folder)?
A. I think my company should take a differentiated strategy. The machine is often designed into unified standard of each country. For that reason, companies produce the machines that can carry out maintenance favorably, no matter which country it is used. However, for equipment currently being distribute in Korea, the standard is ignored in many cases. There will be no problems at this point, when maintenance is not required though corresponding methods will be required as soon as the subsequent maintenance is needed. However, the KSF-13 (folder), which was produced domestically, has followed the standard for specifications of Korea. It has the advantage of being able to maintain and repair at any time.
Q. What is the future direction of Gyeongseong?
A. Through trades, a number of machines from other countries are imported into Korea. My acquaintance recommended me that it would be better to focus on maintaining equipment from other countries. However, I cannot give up the KSF-13 (folder), which is nearly my child. I am going to keep working with my machine until the end.
