🛰️ 나라스페이스, 네팔 홍수 피해 분석 보고서 기증

나라스페이스가 네팔 홍수 피해 지역을 위성영상과 자체 AI 기술로 분석한 보고서를 주한 네팔 대사관에 기증했습니다.

지난 8월 발생한 네팔 홍수 피해를 분석한 결과, 트리슐리강 유역에서 약 31.28 ㎢의 신규 침수·토사 피복 추정 면적을 확인했습니다. 또한 건물 영역과 피해 추정 범위가 겹치는 면적 약 5만 2,180 ㎡를 식별하고, 후속 현장 조사가 필요한 정착지 9곳을 우선 검토 대상으로 분류했습니다.

보고서는 네팔 재난 당국에 전달돼 피해 평가와 복구 우선순위 검토 등에 활용될 예정입니다.

나라스페이스는 위성 개발·운용부터 데이터 분석까지 전 과정을 수행하며, 위성영상과 AI 기술을 활용한 재난 대응 의사결정을 지원하고 있습니다.

앞으로도 위성 데이터가 실제 재난 대응과 복구 과정에 활용될 수 있도록 분석 기술과 서비스 영역을 확대해 나가겠습니다.

🛰️ Nara Space Donates Satellite-Based Flood Damage Assessment Report to Nepal

Nara Space has donated a flood damage assessment report, developed using satellite imagery and its proprietary AI technology, to the Embassy of Nepal in South Korea.

The analysis of flooding in Nepal this past August identified approximately 31.28 km² of areas along the Trishuli River basin estimated to have been newly inundated or covered by sediment. It also identified approximately 52,180 m² where building footprints overlapped with areas of estimated damage and prioritized nine settlements for further on-site assessment.

The report will be shared with Nepal’s disaster management authorities to support damage assessments and recovery prioritization.

Nara Space provides end-to-end satellite services, from satellite development and operations to data analysis, supporting disaster response decision-making through satellite imagery and AI technology.

We will continue to expand our analytical capabilities and services to help put satellite data to practical use in disaster response and recovery efforts.

🚀 Nara Space at POSCO CHANGeUP Demo Day – Next Core Engine!

Nara Space participated in POSCO CHANGeUP Demo Day – Next Core Engine, held on October 7 at the POSCO Center in Seoul.

At the event, Nara Space CEO Jae-pil Park delivered a presentation titled “Eyes from Space, The Start of Climate Action” as a company recognized for excellence by POSCO Holdings.

He shared real-world applications of satellite data for climate and environmental monitoring, including methane emissions monitoring, and highlighted how satellite data can support decision-making and risk management across various industries. 🛰️

An exhibition showcasing Nara Space’s aerospace technologies and satellite data applications is also currently on display at the Steel Lounge in the POSCO Center.

Nara Space utilizes satellite imagery analysis technology to examine the intensity and distribution of nighttime lights by region, indirectly assessing residential and economic activity levels.

Particularly in countries or regions where on-site access is difficult, satellite data can be leveraged to analyze differences in nighttime lighting distribution and brightness, allowing for the comparison of activity levels across various regions.

Furthermore, by analyzing the intensity of nighttime lights in industrial complexes and areas densely populated with large factories, it evaluates facility operations and activity levels, indirectly identifying changes and the operational status of these industrial activities.

Through this approach, economic activities and industrial operations in restricted areas can be systematically monitored and utilized as valuable reference data for urban management and related decision-making.

🛰️ 국내 최초 메탄 관측 위성 ‘경기샛-2A’, 양방향 교신 성공

10월 2일 새벽, 미국 캘리포니아 반덴버그 우주군 기지에서 발사된 경기샛-2A(GYEONGGISat-2A)가 궤도에 정상적으로 분리된 후 나라스페이스 위성관제센터와 양방향 교신에 성공했습니다.

경기샛-2A는 국내 최초로 메탄 관측을 목적으로 개발된 초소형위성입니다. 메탄 관측에 특화된 초분광 센서를 활용해 메탄 배출 지역과 배출원의 위치를 파악하고 배출량을 분석할 예정입니다.

현재 위성 본체와 탑재체의 상태를 점검하는 초기 운영 절차를 진행하고 있으며, 검·보정을 거쳐 정상 운용 단계에 진입하면 본격적인 메탄 관측 임무를 시작합니다.

경기샛-1에 이어 경기샛-2A까지
위성 데이터를 기반으로 기후·환경의 변화를 관측하는 경기기후위성의 여정이 이어지고 있습니다.

🛰️ GYEONGGISat-2A, Korea’s First Methane Monitoring Satellite, Successfully Establishes Two-Way Communication

GYEONGGISat-2A, launched in the early hours of October 2 from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, successfully established two-way communication with Nara Space’s Satellite Control Center after being deployed into orbit as planned.

GYEONGGISat-2A is Korea’s first microsatellite developed specifically for methane monitoring. Using a hyperspectral sensor optimized for methane detection, the satellite will identify methane-emitting areas and locate emission sources while analyzing emission levels.

The satellite is currently undergoing initial operations to verify the status of the spacecraft and its payload. Following calibration and validation, GYEONGGISat-2A will enter routine operations and begin its full-scale methane monitoring mission.

From GYEONGGISat-1 to GYEONGGISat-2A, the Gyeonggi Climate Satellite program continues its journey to monitor changes in our climate and environment through satellite data.

위성이 발사된 이후 임무를 안정적으로 수행하기 위해서는 지상에서의 지속적인 운용이 필요합니다. 🛰️

올해 새롭게 신설된 위성운용팀은 발사 준비부터 초기 운용, 정상 운용에 이르기까지 위성 운용 전반을 담당합니다. 위성 교신윈도우 분석, 스케줄 관리, 위성 관제부터 임무 데이터 획득과 전달까지 위성이 임무를 수행하는 전 과정을 함께합니다.

이번 인터뷰에서는 위성운용팀 최정민 팀장을 만나 2년 전 연구원 시절부터 위성 운용 업무와 새롭게 팀을 이끌게 된 이야기를 들어봤습니다.

Once a satellite is launched, continuous ground operations are essential to ensure it can carry out its mission reliably. 🛰️

Established this year, Nara Space’s Satellite Operations Team oversees the entire satellite operations process, from launch preparation and early operations to routine operations. The team supports every stage of a satellite’s mission, including communication window analysis, scheduling, satellite control, and the acquisition and delivery of mission data.

In this interview, we sat down with Jungmin Choi, Head of the Satellite Operations Team, to hear about his journey from working as a researcher two years ago to overseeing satellite operations and now leading the newly established team.
