Did you know that Korea’s traditional ink painting — 수묵화 (Sumukhwa) — was basically carbon-neutral before it was cool?

Originally black and white, these serene artworks have evolved to include natural pigments — made from flowers, minerals, and tree bark — mixed with traditional black ink.

The ink? It’s made by burning pine soot and mixing it with glue from natural resin or animal hide.
